Tibbitts, all i can tell you is i have never had a problem with dealerships working on a truck/car that i have purchased elswhere, they are quite happy to have your business, not to mention being a possible future buyer.

Larry, I don't have any of the shipping info yet as I made the order Saturday...supposed to get that info this week. I don't anticipate any options delays as the fleet manager I dealt with told me there were no option items that would cause a delay. I do understand about the tracking and that there is a member on the diesel place forum that works at the plant and will track a truck for forum members. Your statement about the truck being at the end of it's run has put a scare into me, please explain. What should I be asking to make sure it gets built ? Did you get the PM I sent to you a week or so ago ?

Bobby,
On another topic, someone stated that 4/4/04 was the last date GM would be accepting orders for '04 models. I don't know for sure, but it sounds about right from what I recall. The risk is that your order gets kicked back due to an option problem or some other technical issue and then you miss the deadline. Hopefully that will not happen, but you really need to stay on top of everything with the dealer. Don't just take his word, have him show you the computer printout on the accepted order and the build detail. Sold units have a different code than dealer stock, so he should be able to give you all the details.

seehunt, I wouldn't worry about it getting built if Chevy/GMC is anything like Ford the last day for 04 orders is known by the dealers ahead of time. Only thing I'd worry about is them using up all those so so parts they passed over during production.

Seehunt-thanks for the feedback.I have another question for you. Before you approached different dealers for quotes how did you handle checking out the 350 at a dealership and test driving to decide on the 04 ford?Wondering if you approached one of the dealers you E mailed? Thanks

Macoshark, I have a neighbor that got a new 1500 [ we are talking GM trucks which is what i am buying ] and I liked it, plus I met a guy thru this site that has a Sierra Duramax / Allison 2500, went and had coffee with him and he took me for a ride in the truck...not to mention I leaned toward the GM trucks after reading many post here for the past several months. Of course others like Fords and Dodges and that is just fine, we all have our favorites.

You can get great deals working it like you did. Back in 2000 when the economy was better (not thats its bad now) and the supercrews were brand new I ordered one over the net the same way. The local dealers here in Austin all wanted MSRP, even on a special order. Ended up getting it from lawrence marshall out in Brenhem. Got it for invoice. Last year I called a local dealer that advertises to beat any price and told them that I had been quoted invoice (white lie). They gave me one hundred under invoice.

seehunt,

I think the experience you describe will vary with the dealer. We've all read posts on this forum to the effect that many RV dealers won't perform warranty work for units they didn't sell, even when they do sell the product line. Or if they do, you might have your RV in the shop for many weeks or months.

It wouldn't be logical to assume the same phenomenon wouldn't occur with auto dealers. Not being in the business, I'm just guessing, but it seems to be the same problem with lower reimbursement rates than they can get from cash customers. If they have enough cash work to keep their techs busy, your truck won't get fixed.

In some dealerships, the service and sales departments are so separate that the sales people have no pull with the service guys. So, even if you buy a vehicle from the dealership, your warranty work will wait until there's no cash business to do. At some other dealerships, they're actually on speaking terms with each other, and maybe the sales manager or somebody can expedite getting your truck fixed.

Of course, the only thing worse than waiting to get something fixed under warranty is paying to have it fixed after the warranty expires.

Paul
