We bought some of the awning light clips to hang our lights from. My husband thinks they should be removed each time we roll up the awning - I think it would be ok to leave them in. We use Christmas lights for our "tacky lights", so they are fairly compact. Does everyone else take down their lights each time? Just trying to eliminate extra set-up and tear-down jobs if possible!

Thanks!

It depends on what type of clips you have. We have fabric tabs that slide into the roller guides. The light are held on with metal clips that look like suspender clips. We unsnap the metal part from the fabric and then roll up the awning. The fabric part in the track gets rolled up with the awning.

I don't think rolling your lights up with the awning is a good idea. Sounds like a good way to break bulbs and possibly cut your awning. You could probably do it with rope lights but I've never seen or heard of anyone doing it that way.

I had originally bought the clips that slide into the rail on the awning and then a friend said that they just use clothes pins and clip the light cord to the scalloped edge of the awning. Been doing it that way ever since and never even opened the clips. Works great and really easy to put up and take down.

I leave my rope lights attached to "Hook-Up Clips" and roll them up in the awning. I've left the rope lights attached to the awning for the past year with no ill effects. Very handy.

Here is a link to the clips I now use to hold the rope lights to the awning (no commercial interest):

We have the fabric strips with S hooks. I attached the hooks to the lights and leave the fabric strips attached to the awning bar.

I've used some weed-wacker line and some wire butt connectors work great! The line is thin enough to roll up with the awning with no ill effects, and should be strong enough to hold up the heaviest of lights.

Family,

Don't roll those little 's' hooks up in your awning or hubby and wife will have little holes in there awning and that's not any camping fun!

Confession time: I did it and got little holes in my awning, but, that was the old camper. I've got a new camper and a fresh start for more mistakes. O well, maybe you might benefit from one of my screwups.

Good luck,

DaveO

I like the clothes pin idea! Thanks Starchmill!
Not sure if I like the idea of rolling up the awning with anything left in as will distort the awning in that area.

With the type of clips I have, I only need to remove them if I want to roll up the awning before driving home (those right turns are a bear}.
Good question. I would like to know if there are clips that can be rolled up into the awning. I'd buy them in a minute.
