Now that we have just installed a screen room on our PU we have more questions. We got a Camco Leisure Mat, which is 7'X 15'. Our screen room is 7'X 10'. Are we better off to cut this mat (Will it fray?) to fit the screen room, or are we better off to let it hang out a couple of feet on each side?
Also, we would like to make some privacy curtains to hang. What would be the best type of material to use to make these?
Thanks!

How do you like your new screen room? Was it hard to put up? Is it really worth it's weight in gold? (so to speak).

My wife and I are thinking about buying one for our '03 Utah.

Randy,
Refer to the post we did recently titled Fleetwood Screen Rooms. In it we explain how the set up went. We are taking it out in a week for the first time with the screen room and we will let you know how it goes. We, too, are hoping that it is worth the money!

Julie, if the mat is woven, it'll probably fray. If it's not, then it probably won't. However, you could bind it with something by hand, or take it to a canvas shop or upholstery shop and have it done. A warning: If it's been used already, they may not want to touch it. I've stitched canvas that's been used but looked clean. It's almost impossible to get that fine grit out of all the mechanics of my industrial sewing machine, and I wish I'd never done it. However, if you don't mind hand stitching it yourself, you could use wide nylon webbing and heavy thread. The edges of some mats can be carefully melted with a torch to prevent fraying, too. I don't know about your particular one, sorry.

Some people use shower curtains for privacy. However, I'd advise using your room for a while first to see if you really want anything. If you're not using it for the Porta Potti or sleeping, you may find you don't need it. If you don't, then it's one less thing to pack, dry out, store, set up, etc.

I made a screen room last year for our pop up but didn't get a chance to actually use it till this last weekend. (Click my Webshots link below, Filly album, for a pic.)

I don't know how the manufactured ones are, but this room did not add ten minutes to our setup time. In exchange, we got an entire day of bug-free relaxation and twice as much living area in our camper. The mosquitoes were terrible, so we cooked supper in the camper and ate it in the screen room on our handy dandy folding table purchased earlier this year, which fits under our dinette for storage like it was made for the space. Additionally, we were able to move freely inside to outside and back again with our four dogs and give them a bug-free place to relax, too.

Is the screen room worth its weight in gold? For us it is. It seems like people either love them or hate them. We already love ours. Any trip the wind permits us to set it up, we'll do it. The set up and take down time for my version is insignificant, so we have no reason not to put it up.

Hello everyone,

I used to have two different popups (both coleman) before I bought my current trailer. I bought the coleman screen room. First off mine actually had the privacy curtains on the screen room. I just had to roll them up and tie them off during the day. There are only two of us but we camped with our two goldens also, so we kept them in the screen room a lot. The screen rooms I had had a flap on the bottom of the walls so I had a rug that was the exact size of the room so it fit over those flaps and actually made a nice room there. I could cook on the outside stove without a lot of bugs and once when it rained I could still get out of the trailer and sit without getting wet. I wouldn't camp in a popup without one.

Randy and Rhonda,
I told you I would let you know how we made out with the Fleetwood screen room. We used it for the first time on the trip we just returned from. We loved it. Kept the mosquitoes and bugs out, as you would expect, but also kept a lot of dirt out of the camper. We were able to cook out in it and eat in it, although rather small for the 5 of us. The nice part was that we could put our dinette table right out in the screen room and keep it there all day, giving us much more needed room inside our PU. Kids took muddy shoes off in screen room, etc. (We had a carpet mat inside it.) Worst part of it is the zipper entrance. We are thinking of maybe putting some sort of velcro snaps on it for when you are going in and out often. We are afraid with the kids tugging on it, the zipper won't last too long. Set up and take down has gotten easier each time (we did it in our backyard once before). Probably about 15 minutes each.
