Hello All,
We are planning a vacation this September to the Iron River Wisconsin area and was wondering if anyone has any pointers on area attractions, campgrounds, and fishing, also thinking of taking a few days to visit the Apostle Islands.
Thanks for any info, this is our first post as we are new members.

Steve,
Start by checking out the Iron River Country website. This may lead you in the right direction.
I went to college up in Ashland and it's a beautiful area. By going in September you may see the start of the Fall colors. A trip to the Apostle Islands should definitely be on your "to do" list.

We spent just a night at the "Top O'The Morn Resort Campground" in Iron River and remember it as a fine place to camp. Facilities were clean and nice. It's located on Iron Lake and it appears that the recreation is based on the fresh water lake, swimming, fishing, boating. There is a game room, playground, etc and if I remember right even a bar for the adults (it is Wisconsin). The Bad River Casino is not too far away on Highway 2 and the Great Lakes Visitor Center near Ashland is well worth the drive. There is a bar in Iron River called "The Other Place" that serves huge hamburgers with excellent fries and onion rings and nice cold beer. There is a great little bakery in Iron River as well as a butcher that makes wonderful jerky. The main activity in that part of the country is fishing of course. Not sure what the date for the Blueberry Festival is, but that is a really nice home town celebration if you happen to hit it right. Northern Wisconsin is truly God's Country.

We stayed at the Top of the Morn Resort in Iron River a couple of years ago. It was a very nice campground. It is right on the ATV trail. My wife and I rode our ATV's up to Lake Superior. It was a pretty drive. The lake at the resort is also a nice lake for Bluegills. We rented a canoe and did some bluegill fishing, caught some nice gills. We then went up to the Apostle Islands for the day. That is very pretty too, but then anything along Lake Superior is beautiful.

We just returned from our vacation to Iron River Wisconsin, and wanted to say "Thank You" for the suggestions that were given to us.
we stayed at the Top O'The Morn Resort and Campground, it is a very nice campground and the owners were friendly.
Fished a few days and caught blue gills and northern's.
We took a ride to Bayfield and Superior. It was a very enjoyable vacation...
