Stopped by the local Honda dealer today and looked at a nice 2002 CRV with 23000 miles. I advised the salesman that I didn't think a 2WD could be towed 4 down with automatic but he called the service dept and they said no problem. I looked in the glove box found the manual and it discusses a stick shift and some about the automatic but does not specifically say that a 2WD cannot be towed behind the MH.
To all of the CRV owners (or anyone else), is he correct or does the CRV have to have the real time 4WD with the automatic? I didn't want to say too much because I was unsure and told him I would check with the "experts".

All Honda's with automatic are towable. Call Honda customer service and they will reply to you with a letter and direction how set up.

I have a 2 wheel drive CRV automatic. It tows just fine. Buy it, You will be happy with it. The proper shift sequence prior to towing is in the manual. You can tow it for 8 hrs. befor you have to start the engine up to lube the tranny again. I just do it in the morning once a day. Theres no way I intend to drive more than 8 hrs in one day so its not an issue with me.

There is another thread on this forum called
'Honda CRV Towing Procedure' that should be helpful.
It's on page three I believe.
The procedure is the same for fwd and 4wd automatic.

We just bought a two wheel drive CRV to tow and I think we will like it. We bought a kit to connect the lighting to the coach, but my husband in having a hard time figuring out just how to do that. Do you have any suggestions. The Honda dealer can do this, but they said they have a long backlog of work before they could get to us.

Honda has recently redone their towing instructions. It's now CLOCK hours, not towing hours. They found that it takes 8 hours for the fluid to drain out and require relubeing. So if you stop for a couple of hours then you need to add that to the previous towing time.

Anyone have the dealer cost for a 2004 CRV,LX? Assume the 2004 model, like the 2002, can be towed. Appreciate any info. Thanks, Phil.

List price is 19.000 plus, cost is around 18,050 or there abouts.
However Honda gives a $750.00 kickback to the dealer. I paid $17,800 for mine in Calif. I got online quotes from my 3 nearest Honda dealers. They all came in around 18,050. A week later I got another e-mail for another $250.00 off. The fleet guy that sold it to me said he had a bunch of crvs right now and wanted to move some. He is also the one that told me about the $750.00 kickback and he went into this kickback for the extra $250.00 off.
This is a great way to buy. No salesmen to talk to. All you need to know is what color you want.

Thanks RC. Very helpful information. I am going to look at what they have on the lots, then request a quote from them via internet. Have you got yours hookled up. What tow package and aux brakes, if any, did you go with? Appreciate your help, Phil.

We got U.S. Gear's Unified Tow Brake System because it's proportional braking, vacuum assisted, but DOESN'T use the toad's battery so there's no chance of draining it down. However, be VERY careful to properly install the brake pulley with this system. Ours had to be re-positioned because although the brake lights worked OK, a separate switch for the cruise control wasn't being released so that the cruise control stopped working until we re-located the brake pulley.
