I just bought a new Keystone Mountaineer and the awning is exposed to the elements when rooled up. While in the market I noticed that none of the 5'ers we looked at had the in-cased awnings. Is there some reason these can't be installed on a 5'er?
Also what do you pro's do to protect your awning from the elements?

Thanks...
Dave

While at camping world in Ohio saw a new motor home for sale had a completely incased awning that was motor operated and had a wind sensor that would retract the awning in case of high winds. The dealer said they are very expensive. The particular set up on that MH was 6K. Too rich for my blood. But they can be installed on 5ers as well.

My awning is wrapped in an aluminum shield when it is retracted protecting it from the elements. It is made by Carefree of Colorado.

I have a A&E 9000 with an aluminum shield don't think for one minute that it won't come unfurrelled (sp) in a high wind. Mine did, so don't buy one for that reason .

We also have a A&E 9000 with an aluminum shield on our Sunnybrook. It was a requested option when we ordered it. I think it was like a $150.00 upgrade.

We ordered our 5th wheel with the aluminum awning shield. I don't remember the cost, but it was in the $100 - $150 price range. It protects the awning from the sun, bird droppings, and tree sap when rolled up.

Does anyone know if the aluminum cover can be bought by itself and put on an awning without one?
