Thanks for all the come backs on the GPS thing. Remember now just a Handheld unit. No lap tops, no on board navigation systems. Yes I do have a Streets and Trips but my DeLorme Street Atlas USA works better Where ever I run the curser I get a continous coordinate read out on the lower left of my monitor screen. But without an address the locating features don't hardly work. But I leave all that stuff at home. It would be great to have an address. But even if you have the address it still needs to be converted to Longitude and latitude. Trailor Life has a crew of inspectors visiting these CGs continously, if they had a handheld they could jot down the lon & lat while they're doing their paperwork. Besides I don't want to get a fancier unit. it took me years to figure how to make this one work. Thanks again people, just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one out there.
Enjoy the Toys

If you are using Streets and Trips, turn on the "Location Sensor". The Location Sensor is located in the Tools menu selection at the top of the screen. The Location Sensor will provide you with the LL coordinates for wherever you point the cursor. So find the address, point the cursor at the address located and look at the Location Sensor box for the LL coordinates.

We use the Delorme gps. I need the street address and zip code. It will then route me to the address.

Even if you are given an address, it can be problematical, since sometimes it is not formatted in "correct" fashion, and many rural campground addresses will only get you within a few miles on a particular road. Latitude and Longitude are not subject to interpretation - if they are the right numbers, they are exact.

In Street Atlas, under Find, choose Advanced and then in the drop-down box select Latitude/Longitude. No street address needed.

In other words, if the directories put Lat/Long in, just about any standard laptop program or handheld can be used; it is the one universal set of coordinates.

HAMOPS
Ham operator?

GEORGE:
How well does that 5.3 do pulling your fiver? How well does it do in the hills? What do you get for mileage. Tell me to mind my own business!!!

I have a 93 vintage heavy duty 3/4 with a 460 (7.5) that I used to use to pull a 27' fiver. It would flatten all hills and pass anything on the road except a gas station. Of course when I leave the trailer it still gets poor mileage. 7.5 towing and 9/14 solo. Not too smart using a 6,000 lb truck to go after groceries. But then look what I do for a hobby!!!!
