Our fridge quit during a storm (that's another story, all is well now) and all the food stored in it defrosted - including a dozen fish we caught on our trip. It was several days before we discovered the power was out. You can only imagine the odor that greated my DH when he went to check the RV. Does anyone know how the get the odor of dead fish out of a freezer? I've tried several things, none of which have helped. When we open the freezer, we have to air out the RV. I'm thinking about putting a rag with bleach in the freezer to see if that will help.

Sorry, I have no suggestions. Our friends came home to a freezer full of rotten fish. They simply rolled the freezer to the dump with the fish inside. I guess I'm not optimistic for you.

Try baking soda. Dump an entire box in, close the door, wait 24 hours. I've done it with some odors, but never rotten fish. I hope it works for you.

Here is what you do to save your freezer. Take a old cloth, dampen it with water them soak it with vanilla. I buy a large bottle from Sam's. Wipe down the walls of the freezer, leave rag in with door closed overnight. Rinse rag with water, soak again with vanilla and repeat wiping wall and leaving rag in overnight as long as you need to remove the odor. I have saved ice chest, a boat fridge, and a freezer with this method. It was a tip from the Igloo ice chest people and it really works!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!! I will do that right now! It's gotta smell better than the clorox that I've wiped it down with so far.

Here is another one for you. Don't know how effective it is as I just read it in this months FMCA mag. Place used coffee grounds in the freezer and fridge compartments. Jack.

I have also heard that vanilla extract is great for odors in fridge.

I saw something in the paper yesterday about this (only spoiled meat, not fish!) The suggestion was to run the unit for several days with nothing in it but activated charcoal. Reactivate the charcoal every six to eight hours by heating it in a 350deg oven until hot.
I think I would try the vanilla first though - sounds easier!! Good luck!

We, too, have a similar problem with refrigerator odor from meat spoilage (chicken) due to a power failure. I've tried the Clorox and baking soda, but neither has worked. Have you tried the vanilla or the charcoal? I'm desperate to get rid of the odor as we have a trip planned in just a few days. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
