I tried to do a search on this question but had no luck so here goes. This past week we were on a trip to Louisiana and since we drive a gasser we stopped into many gas stations to fill up. Most had the pumps that run from the road to the store. One we stopped at was a truck stop with the diesel pumps on the side but all the gas pumps were up front. We were pulling our towed so we were long. Most of the time we were not sure we were even going to be able to get in but twice we thought for sure we would not get out without unhooking the towed.(DH sqeeked by while I stood out side to help.)We are both good drivers - dh is the best - but there is only so much room and when you have to deal with other vehicles (who have just as much rights as you, of course)it can be very frustrating. Do others find this frustating as well and do the big truck stops like Loves and Flying J have their gas pumps more RV friendly? Does "The Exit" list Rv friendly gas stations? Is there such a thing?? We've been Rving for a long time but have not towed but for the last year or so and we have finally gotten to the point in life where we can take trips more often and for longer amounts of time. What do others do to help with this problem. We would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.

Flying J's usually have RV pumps separate from the main gas islands. Only Bosselmann in Nebraska has inline pumps out in the open.

Good question, I wish I had a better answer. We try and fill up at truck stops, specifically Flying J and Loves. Some Speedways are also a little more open. We try and look before entering and if possible go in toward the building and swing out toward the street so no cars will park in front of us thus blocking us in.

most Flying J Truck Stops have an RV lane that has both gas and diesel pumps. I use Flying J's almost exclusively when on the road, wherever I can. If there is no FJ available, I will try to find another truck stop(Loves, Pilot, Town Pump, etc.). Regular gas stations usually just are not laid out for large rigs

Get yourself a book called "RVer's Friend" about $12.95. It list the truck stops and those that are RV friendly and the services they supply. They also let you know if they allow RV's to overnight. I wouldn't be without it.

Flying J is the only one with RV pump set ups. Loves are a hit and miss thing. The rest toss a coin.

Thanks everyone for responding. I think it is a problem that needs to be addressed since there are more and more RV's on the road these days. I know a lot of them are deisel but there are a lot of "gassers" out there too. It isn't always possible to find a truck stop when you need one and all aren't set up "gasser" friendly. The gas stations don't always appreciate us - we take up a lot of room, blocking at least two pumps and sometimes more and it takes time to fill up. GrandpaDick, I appreciate the information and I will be looking for the book you mentioned. Anything that will help to make our time even more enjoyable - 'cause it doesn't get much better than this. I know how truely bless we are to be able to live this lifestyle and with Thanksgiving around the corner it will be one of the many things I am thankful for, as I am everyday. God bless.

I'm still fairly new at the Class A thing, but have been towing for a long time. I did take the RV driving course offered by Lazy Days (highly recommended). He said don't worry about your toad, if your motorhome will clear, the toad will too as it's much narrower. Keeping that in mind, I've squeezed mine into places I didn't think it would fit.

I've also seen some of "you others" out there demonstrating how a big RV will fit in an unfriendly gas station. Yes, there are some that no amount of skill will sneak it in, but there are plenty of others that you can.

I now stop just as I'm entering a questionable gas station to assess whether I can make it or not. I'm not so worried about getting in as I am about getting out. I'm also patient enough to wait to get the entire island on the end of the gas station.

I love the look on the faces of the guys with little cars at the gas station when I pull in. I've not had to unhitch yet, but I came close once when I didn't examine the exit close enough!

You should buy the book called "THE NEXT EXIT" it is great to have and covers all the major interstates in the country and lets you know what services are at each exit.

Mowermech: I forgot to mention the Cenex stations, esp along I90 in Montana. I use the one in Laurel, one exit west from the refinery. It has good acess even for rv's. http://www.cenex.com/

How is Schulte's access in GTF?
