Just answered a question along these lines. I found using a trackvision system in most cases you will not be able to get Dish 500 with reacquiring the second satellite. Direct TV uses one satellite for all the channels they carry but Dish has two satellites. I changed to direct just because of that problem. When I discontinued Dish 500 the service rep understood the whys.

Good Luck

Is that KVH TracVision? Ours will be coming with a KVH TracVision and this info is exactly what I've been trying to get from our dealer and Dish...nobody will give us straight answers! They will always, 'get back to us' but never do!

Thanks!

If the program packages that Dish and Direct Tv offer are both suitable for you, I would go with Direct TV due to the ease of finding just one satellite.

From the KVH Owner's Manual:

KVH Tracvision Dish 500 Operation

To configure the Tracvision system for DISH 500, follow these steps:

1. Turn on your receiver, TV, and Tracvision system.

2. Using the receiver’s remote control, go to the Point Dish/Signal Strength screen and select satellite 119 and transponder 11. ...

...this goes on for a whole page. In other words, Dish 500 will work with the Tracvision system, but it is no longer fully automatic. It also mentions that once the system is configured for DISH 500, you can switch between satellites 119 and 110, but only when stationary.

While the TracVision will (attempt to) switch satellites between the 110 and the 119 when you tell it to, MotoSat now makes a real dual LNB automatic rooftop antenna that points to both satellites simultaneously, just like a Dish 500 antenna. It's called the MD500. Here's one guy that's selling them: http://www.azmobilesatellite.com/MD500.html

We've had the KVH TracVision L-3 and using it with Dish500 over the past year. The only issue is that to switch between Echo_110 and Echo_119 satelites you need to manually push a A/B switch button. Other than that inconvienience we've had no problems. My 9 year old switches the sat all the time to go between Boom and Cartoon Network.

We just went thru this problem while taking VIP delivery of our American Tradition at the factory in Decatur this week. We brought our Dish receiver with us, but forgot the remote. I went down to the local radio shack and bought a general purpose remote, but it drove us nuts trying to get it to work. The Tech at AM was on the phone with KVH for an hour to get it to work. We used 119 and transponder 11. It works, but is a pain the butt to set up. WE just got home from Decatur today and will try to use the real remote tomorrow. I will say that when we were able to get it to work, it was great. Stay tuned.

I have had both Direct TV and Dish 500. I am currently on Dish and if I had it to do over again I would have stayed on Dircet TV. Set it once and forget it. Dish is a PAIN to switch back and forth especially in bad weather. If you are going to be a new subscriber, Direct is alot more RV friendly.

I have the KingDome and Dish 500. It is pretty easy to switch between the two sats using the control panel in the coach. I usually leave it on 119 and get about 85% of the channels we normally watch anyway. If we want to watch our local networks (Chicago) we have to switch over to 110. It takes about 30 seconds to lock on...not that big a deal. I am borrowing a DTV receiver from my brother this next week to test it out when we travel to FL for Turkey Day.
