Anyone ever took a class A to Alaska? Got some friends that want us to go with them. I have only heard horriable stories about the roads.

I did, twice, along with several hundred other class A owners doing it every year, year after year.
Don't listen to any horror story about Alaska.

I took a 38' DP to Alaska this year and had no problems. No flats, no broken MH windshield, just lots of beautiful scenery and lots of wonderful people. Road conditions vary by the mile, and the byword is "slow down and enjoy the scenery"

We're planning on taking the trip next summer. What are the pros and cons of caravaning?

traveling by yourself you can go at your own schedule, stay as long as you like, go to the same places and save a lot of money. with the group you have comradirie, schedule, planned events, campgrounds etc we did it on our own with a 29 ft motorhome towing a toyota station wagon with 4 wd. great time no mechanical problems, some gravel stretches of road being repaired. next time i will take more time and travel slower, probablly 2 months in alaska. either way you go -do-it, you won't regret it.

We've done it a couple time. The roads are not bad any more. From the looks of the traffic last time we went up I thought every body was there. You will not be alone.

We took our motorhome to Alaska in 2001 AND with a Caravan.
First, we would take our new motorhome to Alaska without a second thought. We traveled all the good and all of the bad roads. We found that the worst of the roads could be handled if you just slow down to a reasonable speed...sometimes it is 25mph and sometimes it's 45mph. Our trip was from Calgary thru Dawson Creek thru Alaska then south on the Cassier (spelling?) highway and amounted to 5000 miles. I would guess we had about 200 miles of "bad roads" that we took very slowly.
Scenery is breathtaking! An exciting experience!
We did enjoy the caravan but would not take one in the USA again. We tend to be free spirits with our schedule, places and things to do and the caravan takes care of all of it for you. For us that makes it a love hate sort of thing...love to have someone do it all but feel hampered by the preselected schedule.
Either way, just go and have fun.
