Hi,
We are looking at adding an A&E awning to the slideout on the camper. Has anyone done this and is it worth it. After talking to the dealer it seams the seals on the slide could be an issue down the road and I would like to avoid any problems if I can.
Thanks for the input on the Springdale. We hope to enjoy it.
Thanks,
Dan

Yes, We had an A&E slide awning installed at time of purchase. Mainly to keep leaves and sticks off slide. Also we didn't want to chance a leak during rain storms. It is worth having installed at dealer. He has to warranty it.

Dan,
I certainly recommend it. We have gone both ways...with and without and have found that the benefits FAR out weigh the negitives.
We camp extensively in the Northwest under a lot of trees and on the windy Oregon Coast. Never had any problems and it makes retracting the slide a much cleaner and drier procedure.

I was just looking at these on several sites, as I need two of them. I checked the prices to have them installed on my camper by the dealer. 800 for the big slide and 300 for the little slide. I can buy the things for less than half that. I can't really see it being that hard. So I as well would like to hear from someone who has DIY'ed it.

I would also like to hear from someone who has done it themselves. In the fall we had to put our slide in after a rain storm. Actually didn't think about it being that wet!!!(duh!). It got water all over everything. We need an awning.

We don't have one. We also have no problem with water entry, even when closing the slide during rain. We do have the ladder on the back and I always check for leaves/twigs before the DW pushes the button to close it. I clean the roof regularly during the summer and the disadvantage I would have is getting underneath the awning to clean the roof. With no water problems, I just don't see the need to spend money on a slide awning. JMHO

We bought A&E from camping world a few years back I think
it was about $300 for the super slide. My buddy and I installed
topper in about 3 hours, have never installed one before.
Job was fairly straight forward.
On days it was pouring down rain and had to pull the slide
in while it was raining, without the topper on we used to get
a lot of water coming inside while closing the slide.
We also like topper as a little insurance that is sheds
water around the top of the slide when closed.
For the $300.00 was a small price to pay to help keep our
trailer dry from mildew & rot.

If you do a search on this topic, you will find quite a bit has been written, with a lot of people that like them and don't like them. There are also some tricks out there for dealing with potential issues with wind and rain accumulation....using inflatable beach balls to prevent rain accumulating and wind baffling.
Personally, right at the end of the season, I had one put on our travel trailer as I really don't like having to have to sweep off pine needles and small twigs/branches as well as worrying about puddles of water coming in with the slideout. So, when the season starts, I'll find out if I'm going to be happy with it or regret the expense.
Hope this helps!

If you dont mind having to get up on the roof and check & clean off any water, pine cones, acorns, bird dootie, tree sap everytime then you dont need one. Personally Ive have had 3 installed and have no worries. After taking a quick look between the covers and the roof of the slides I push the button and bring them in. Rain accumulation will make them sag but all you have to do is bring your slides in and let the water run off after its done raining. I never put anything between the cover and the slide.
I had ours installed at CW.
