I am planning on going to Pigeon Forg Tn on May 20 and want to know if there are any construction issues I would need to be aware of. A neighbor heard that there are delays going south over the mountain. If there are delays is there a detour around the construction that I could take. I will be towing a 2000 Cardinal 33RLBW with a 1999 GMC dually crew cab long bed so this will be a long unit and switch backs would not be great to get around the mountain. Curves is not an issue, but going around a curve and seeing your own tail lights would be, been there, done that, had laundry problem afterwards.

We drove thru there southbound a few weeks ago, stayed on I-75 all the way, no problem. It is one lane each way for a bit, but no real problem. No different than any other one lane construction zone.

We had some family members drive through the area for spring break and the SB backups were terrible and they tried the detour and said it was a very twisty route. There son became quite car sick. They said it wouldn't be a real good option for towing a trailer through.
I would think that there circumstances were somewhat different with all the northerners heading south for spring break and hope that the route will be passable in 4 to 6 weeks when we travel through. They had no problems on the return trip on the NB side and two lanes.

We go through there often but not since mid Apr. The slide created problem is not really that bad now. Friday evening is a fairly busy time. We have heard from friends that the delays now are not long if any. You can go west at Jellico (exit160) go to through Lafollette take 63 east to 25E and end up on 40 but some of it is narrow two lane and although not much longer would take more time. My recommendation is to go straight thru. good luck

Thanks to everyone for your quick responses. It looks like we will take the straight route, down I-75 over the mountain. I guess it is the luck of the draw as to whether there will be traffic backed up, as Clint said, "do you feel lucky?"
We are going to Pigeon Forge on May 20 and should be going over Jellico about 12:30 in the afternoon, with luck it will just be a slow down and not stop and go traffic.
We are staying at King's Holly Haven for four nights on site 28. If anyone is there or is going to be there, stop in and say hi.
Again, thanks.
