Last year we had a problem where we the camper was unplugged and meat thawed in the freezer. Now we have this lingering odor of rotten meat. We have washed it out good and have tried keeping baking soda in the freezer. Any other ideas of how we can get the smell out of the freezer other then a new fridge?

You probably don't want to hear it, but if the smell is there, you may have to really take the unit apart, and start scrubbing again. There is something lingering. Little screws need to be removed, tear it down as far as it can go. I was in Puerto Rico for hurricane Georges and working the disaster so by the time I got home to clean my own unit, it was horrible, so I feel your pain. I washed everything down with bleach water, soaked everything in a solution of bleach and still the smell was there. Good luck to you.

Try some hydrogen peroxide mixed with dish soap. Spray it inside and let set a few minutes. It will bubble in places where there is blood hiding.

I just posted on another thread of how I left chicken in mine. it happened two years ago. I used crumpled up newspaper and charcoal, filled the freezer with it. Changed it every 4 days and with in two weeks the smell was completely gone!! Thanks to the folks on rv.net!!

Activated charcoal can make a difference. Some suppliers sell a small one you can hang in your freezer all the time. never had an issue since I have been using them

Add some baking soda to that concoction and you have the Number one formula for skunk descenting.

They also make a little battery powered fan with an activated charcoal filter. That would work great.

Can anyone tell me where I can purchase activated charcoal. Is this the same stuff that they use for OD's in the hospitals?
Thanks again!

Are you certain that it is not in the carpet? Maguiars makes a product that is an air freshner that is not sprayed in the air, but into the carpet. This is where they say most smells originate from.
I have used this in all of my Mustangs, and the time DW went grocery shopping in the Lincoln, and the fresh meat packages opened up on a 110 degree day, and all the blood went into the trunck. YUCK! What a smell
