Absolutely
We have three cats in a two story house.
We have Roombas for both upstairs and downstairs.
You will not believe how good these little guys are.
We got one for our DD for her birthday
She got one for her MIL for Christmas
They have both a vacuum and a sweeper
You should empty them between every couple of runs - ESPECIALLY the first couple of times you use them. It will find everything you missed .

You HAVE to be kidding. A forum for robotic vacuum cleaners?
If you put the battery in backwards it will keep Blowing and Blowing and Blowing.
Everybody wants to have a maid.
Everybody wants to have a serving girl, a winsome and deserving girl to putter around the house. ("A funny thing happened on the way to the forum")

My wife likes her Roomba; she really likes her Scooba. She also has a Dirt Dog; but I found a design flaw in this system.

We have two of them. Best thing since sliced bread. Can't wait for them to make a lawn mower.

We also have two, a Roomba and a Scooba. And, I have the lawnmower too! It actually came first!
It's an iMow by Toro! Unfortunately, TORO never marketed the product very well and never dropped the cost, so they didn't sell very many. Fortunately, the company that manufactured the robotic mowers for Toro is still around. You can check them out, their name is Friendly Robotics. And the best part is that they carry spare and replacement parts for my "old" Toro iMow!!
If my iMow ever dies, I may consider an Automower by Husqvarna!

I have to admit this thread has gotten my attention!
Your questions were the ones I had, too...the equal performance going from carpet to hard surfaces.
Tempting...very tempting!

Frankjake,
My wife bought her Roomba to help keep the tile floor in the kitchen and mud/dog room free of dog hair and orange dust from the dried orange mud. She would run it overnight every day which allowed her to skip vacuuming with her Dyson everyday. She loves hers. It works well on our berber carpet; it does not like rugs with fringe. If it can keep up with the dust and hair coming off our 10 dogs, it'll keep up with normal house dust.

Does anyone have the iRobot Looj™ 150 Gutter Cleaning Robot? That sure would come in handy. Our back gutters are 3 floors off the ground and back up to the woods.
