We have broken the strings on two of the day night window shades of our 2005 Fleetwood Expedition. Havn't located a manufactures label on them. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know who the manufacturer is so that I might get new string and the directions on how to repair them? Thanks Bob

Try this link Dirty Blind Man

He has a CD that gives you instructions and photos of many different configurations of blinds. He also sells repair kits. Repairing these things is a bit time consuming but not very difficult.

He also does repairs if you send the blinds to him.

I went to a local shade shop and told them my problem of broken strings. They knew what I needed and gave me several hundred feet of string. It is easy to replace strings. I've replaced at least one string on most of my shades. It seems to take me about an hour per shade to remove, repair and reinstall.

I used a piece of fishing twine, about 50 lb test to restring the shades...there are great diagrams on the Winnebago web site...it is rather easy...also I bought a darning needle to string the string (does that make sense) that I bought at Wally World...

Not to bad of a job..the hardest part is getting the blinds down from behind that cover.......

I'm getting really tired of ours. Last year we had two sent back to Mfger SWC Specialty Window Coverings & they restrung for free. Now we have two more and probably a third one about ready to go. We might just replace them all with residential style honeycomb from Home Depot sometime this year.

They are easy to restring. I got string from Wal-Mart and did mine myself. Just study them as you take them apart and you can see how they work.

We wanted to get rid of the day/night shades - did not like them at all and got tired of the repairs. Finally we did it late last year - replaced all of them (except the bathroom) with the MCD roller shades.

A couple of pics below. These are manual roller shades -- one privacy shade and the day shade is black mesh. We just leave the mesh one down all the time. The mesh looks like the same product used to make the outside sun screens. Total project not cheap -- cost us $1950 (price includes shipping) for 10 windows but we are very happy with them and I just love the light we now have inside during the day. And the mesh does cut down on heat. These became standard on the 2008 Allegro Bus and I think they might be standard on the 2009 Phaeton.

Label on shades in my Fleetwood: Specialty Window coverings, 1655 Gateway Court, Elkhart, IN. 46514. Phone them at (574) 262-5190 and they will send the cord and directions free. They recently began charging for the tensioners (bobbins) though. Restringing is easy to do once you have figured how to remove valance. I remove valance with shade mounted, usually 5 screws.

Call Eric at 352-307-9320 and talk with him. If you do not want to do it yourself, eric is probably your best bet. He has done 6 or ours and does the work for a fair price, excellent quality and returns the blinds in a short time.

He will do what he says he will do.

good luck.
