...we were discussing weather outlook scenarios two weeks ago for our 1st outing, Maine:
Silverdunes: ....for sure, looks like we're heading for a drought after all the winter/spring precip...
Silversand: ....now way Jose, we're gonna be under water from May till end of September fer sher...La Nina is way too set in place...
Looking out our east-facing window Sunday, T minus 20-hours till departure for Maine:

Camper sits in it's custom-made parking space wondering if we're ever going to go anywhere this summer?

June 16th, present day: after announcing to a fellow RV.net colleague from New Hampshire that we had canceled our Maine trip (well, postponed it anyway), Monday morning radar and several models are showing a mixed bag of weather; well, short-term anyway. The only thing predictable about weather this summer is it's unpredictability!
Radar is showing severe weather currently over southern New Hampshire and Vermont, after a downpour over our mountain home 100 kilometers east of Montreal. Hmmm? Should we chance it? What the hell, let's go. Better charge up the DVCam batteries and the other image-making toys, and hope for some weather action (rather, inaction).
ETA: perhaps somewhere around 5:45 PM at Maine coast...
Stay tuned for Part II

We call it, "Campy Condo"; we're installing an artist studio on the 2nd floor with half-balcony out the back and sliding studio windows out front...

Part II
Loaded, now to get those jacks up and locked:

...we hit rain only 15 minutes after departure entering the Mount Orford, Quebec valley. Not a good sign!

We had an uneventful border crossing, taking just 2-minutes. We managed to hobble 60 kilometers from the Quebec side over to Vermont where gasoline was an incredibly cheap $4.26 an 89 octane gallon.
We were hoping that Maine highways dept (or whoever maintains the roads of Maine) would have finished re doing both the 26 and 2, however only bits and pieces were completed.
We had mainly blue skies up till we hit the Mount Washington valley:

Arriving at Freeport, Maine, at around 7 PM, it looked like a ghost town. Contrary to what we in the past remembered to be a bustling summer outlet shopping district!
Pulled into Recompense well after dark and quickly set up, safe and sound. Will post pix of Recompense when light out tomorrow

Silversand - bask in that cool, foggy weather at Recompense. If we were home, we'd join you! It's 9:12PM in Kanab, UT and still 88F. Our house sitters said they had to turn on the furnace last night for a bit. Go figure!
PM me if you need a place to park for a while. We aren't that far from Freeport and can offer you electricity and water. Go into Freeport to Gritty McDuff's Pub. Good grub and microbrew. Also there is a brand new Cabella's in Scarborough right off of I-95, Exit 6 if I remember right.
Send some cool weather would you?

Hi Anne!
Thanks for the offer!! And, the pointer to the Pub. We may check out Pub Tuesday. Checking in from Recompence, site 9. Nice to be in Maine again, but we'd drive to Utah for that hot dry wind any time.
We're up now checking the doppler radar. Just had 3 solid hours of rain, no break. Looks like rain will end in 20-mins. It's not that cool out; I'd say about 60F currently (2:57 AM). It's pretty soggy out. Bone dry in camper, lots of wine & beer. We're off to LL Bean tomorrow morn, and may do Cabela's perhaps Wednesday.
A few mosquitoes out, but tolerable.
Forgot to close propane door at supper; drying off as I type
Steve: it's a rainforest here; lots of moss, too!

Wow...3 solid hours of rain last night. Up at 3:20 AM to close the x$#!** propane door. Full of water. Must remember to close the vent door after supper.
Morning:
Too miserable to contemplate a home-cooked breakfast. It's humid, soggy, and after dropping cash into shower, the timer didn't work.
After trying another...yes, hot water at last!
Seems like the weather is breaking; looks like some clearing, finally. Let's go eat breakfast.
Lots of road construction in downtown Freeport. Jackhammering, paving, building...We find a haven from construction noise to eat: Isabella's Cafe. Not too bad; $15 for 2.
It seems that LL Bean is taking over Freeport; they've got "campuses" all over the city, buildings going up everywhere, and even a 'Paddling Training Camp" among others peppered throughout the countryside. Could LL Bean be attempting to create a Kingdom here? It sure seems like it. Here's the centerpiece in downtown Freeport, engineered out of rock, water, terrain modeling. A virtual haven, a painting, an art installation:

Back at camp now scouting a new site. Our previous locale curtailed our potential orientation for a million-dollar view. We're now assigned to Site 158:

PLEASE send some rain our way. It was 100+ today and at 9:45PM is still 87F. TC is now down to 78 and that background noise is himself snoring. LL Bean pretty well owns Freeport but is a pretty good steward of the land and buildings. That construction is a new 3 story parking garage with two lower floors of parking and the top story shops which will be level with Main Street. They are also going to put in a "theme" park out on Desert Road but the themes will be hunting, fishing type "games". We'll see (sad smile for more traffic). I truly hope you get some sun at Recompence. The views out over Casco Bay are pretty good. If you have a kayak, Farctic Ox can tell you places to go. If you want some decent fried seafood go down to South Freeport Harbor, end of the road.
