With an '06 View 23J, do I have to worry about finding the "right" kind of diesel? I've heard tell of problems finding diesel, and now hear about having to find a specific kind of diesel.
Is it also true of the 06?
Yeesh. Things are getting more complicated by the minute!

'06 diesels will run on either ULSD or LSD, the only two types of fuel available now.

I don't think I'd be too concerned now, most stations do not carry lsd anymore. We travel with the SIL and her hubby and they have no problems finding ulsd for their ulsd 2010 compliant truck. Some areas, after Katrina had a waiver but that should be not an issue in most parts of the country. Just stay away from the red stuff and you will be fine.

You do NOT want the non-highway ("red") stuff that is available at some pumps. It's usually labeled as such and those pumps are usually on the same islands as the regular highway fuel.
Check out this page from the Clean Diesel Fuel Alliance.
Suggest you check out the recent thread on the V-N forum where some of us are questioning if we want to use the B-11 blend we've come across in Illinois.
You'll probably find more LSD at the truck islands than at the car islands - I found several of those on a recent trip. The truck islands nozzles are a little big for the filler neck on our Navion, though. They'll work, but not easily.
So far, we've found only ULSD at the RV islands at the Flying J's we've been to. We look for the Flying J's whenever possible.
Our nearest Wal-Mart's station (Murphy Oil) has ULSD, but I've heard of Wal-Marts that have LSD instead. You need to read the sticker on the pump (required by law, but some stations don't do it).

Please do not put out bad information such as this. There are many parts of the US where you will NOT find ULSD, unless you hunt for it and many truck stops still dispense both LSD and ULSD. The retail industry is NOT required to complete the switch over until 12/2010, except in California and Canada.

Let me see if I have this straight: I can use LSD & ULSD (and hopefully the pumps will say what they are), but I can't use "red" stuff? What is red stuff? And is it around a lot? How do I identify it? (Surely, the pump doesn't say "red stuff") lol

Yes, there is a lot of LSD out there. That's why one should always look for the sticker on the pump. No sticker - I don't buy it. If the station owner can't comply with the law (or is too lazy), then I won't take a chance on it.
She may not need ULSD in her '06. I think it depends on whether or not she has a "particulate filter", like we have with our V-6.

The pump should say "non-highway", or something like that. I haven't seen it often. It's for farm equipment, etc. It costs less because of less or no tax paid on it. It may mess up some of your sensors.
Just look for the LSD or ULSD stickers on the pumps.

red fuel is for off road use .like farm tractor etc , susan go jump in that new rig and quit worrying about the small stuff . when it comes time to fuel up . just pull into the station that has diesel one or more of the pumps in the car fueling area will have diesel pump. stay out of the area that is for big rigs semi; trucks . . jump in the car and go for a test run.

The "red stuff" pump will generally have a big warnig sign that it is for oof-road use only. Generall, these pumps are not located near Diesel #2 pumps. An 06 can run on either ULSF or LSF. A warning about the red stuff: due to the high cost of fuel nowdays, more State Troopers/CHP, etc. do a fuel check when stopping trucks. I have only occasionally heard about RVers being checked, but it wouldn't surprise me to see increased checking. AFter all, we usually arry around 100 gals or so. You don't want to get caught using non-highway fuel. Nothing wrong with it, but it hasn't had highway taxes paid on it.
