I've got a buddie that wants to get a 4500 Dodge. Now the problem is there is no pic up bed 4 it.Its longer than 8ft. He doesen't want to go with a custom bed because it's 11.000. Any ideas would help. thanks Jim

He should read this post. http://www.turbodieselregister.com/forum........t-engine/202676-3500-vs-4500-5500-a.html
These are work trucks and with the present springs do not make a very good daily driver, and Dodge does not offer an air ride option.

We have the 2008 Dodge 5500 and love it! Found a demo that already had the pick up bed on. Company in Indiana did the pickup bed.
Our truck is easier riding than our previous dodge 2500 because we have the air ride suspension. Got all the goodies with this truck.

Someone else did the air ride suspension also, not a Dodge option. Glad you got a good deal. But, new truck plus bed plus air ride equals big bucks! Chris

Yes we know the air ride suspension is not a Dodge option. We would have done it if it wasn't already there.
We are a Dodge family. This is the 4th Dodge we have owned. So we know what comes with and what doesn't. Had been working with a Dodge dealer in CO and he knew what we wanted and that is why he found this demo truck for us. It is perfect for us.
It has the Laramie cab which we wanted. Has a camera on back of cab for hooking up. The camera is not a Dodge option either!

Hang tool boxes under each side and build removeable stake sides for it and the flatbed becomes alot more useful than a regular pickup bed, with lots of storage, a large flat area for cargo, and plenty of clearance for the trailer.

I don't think it would be any more difficult than what upfitters have been doing to F-450/550 cab chassis trucks for years. Many I have seen upfitted with pickup beds have basically used a F-350 dually bed and inserted a "plug" between the 8 foot bed and the cab. Doesn't look too bad, either. Air ride can be done by Kelderman(sp?), I have driven a F-550 with this setup and it rode very comfortably. I second the idea of taking a cab chassis 4500/5500 and installing the flat bed. I saw hundreds of them running around Casper, Wyoming. Mostly Ford and Dodges. Dealer sold them that way with the spare mounted over the cab and large boxes under the bed. Most have goose neck balls fitted but I saw several with fiver hitches, too. Steel or aluminum, looked real nice.

They put the plug between the cab and bed and it looks really nice.
Every state is different but you may pay more for insurance with a flat bed. Our insurance told us this. We did not have to pay more for insurance for this truck than any other pickup.
