We will be new fulltimers, starting December 1. We are in the process of planning our first winter. Commitments in February and March require us to be in Florida this first winter. One of the destinations we need to work into our itinerary is the Fort Lauderdale area, in order to have a Motosat installed on our motorhome(probably in January). We would not have planned to stay there other than for this reason, so we know nothing about the area.
Can anyone recommend a campground in the area? We don't need a lot of amenities, but do have two well-behaved dogs that will be with us. We are more into the nature/hiking lifestyle than the country club set.
Our MH is a 35-foot Class A with slides.
Thanks in advance!!

I would suggest one of the county parks in the area . CB Smith in Pembroke Pines may be the closest . We like John Prince in Lake Worth better but , it would be further from Ft. Lauderdale . There also is one in Sunrise called Markham Park . Never stayed there but , it may be the closest . Good luck ...

Thanks! John Prince looks very nice and that's not too far. I'll check it out.

Ditto C.B. Smith Park. We stayed there total of 3 weeks in 2007 during our house hunting and transition process. Nice place with full hookups. You can see a couple of pics of our sites (11 & !2) in this link. Just page down to the Pembroke Pines entry. Click on pics to enlarge.
And this link will take you to all the
Broward County Camping.
We drove thru T.Y. park - completely redone. It's close to I-95 so road noise level is higher. But sites are long and all repaved. But Sewer hooksup seem to be in wrong spot -- everyone had extensions.
We also have toured Markam park -- but need to go back -- I understand they have been working on it. Lost lots of trees during a hurricane. In 2007 it was a bit depressing... I did not like it at all.
Of those three I'd pick C.B. Smith. No question. Hop, skip and jump to Ft. Lauderdale. It's a wonderful area to walk - inside the CG and in the public park area.

Hmmm You know I just read thru the county website and they have a good writeup on Markam park. I'll drive over there this afternoon and check out the renovation progress. Plus I see they have a dog park - something you might really like. I've been wanting to get over there for a while anyway. It's just down the road from us. I'll take my camera and let you know what I find.

Easterlin park is in the middle of Ft. Lauderdale.
Full hookups and a dog park right outside the gate. Its a couty park. It has the most mature trees of any park in south Florida. Only drawback for me is a train track boders the park. I have pictures if you want to see typical site. I have stayed in all the county parks in Broward.

Just got back from Markham park. I spoke with a camper there - he goes all the time and prefers it over CB Smith Park mainly cuz it's more quiet.
Sites are grouped in circles.
Circle F - Paved, pull thru sites.

Example of others - These seem to have just 1 site paved - the rest are not. I'm guessing it may be a handicap site.
First pic Cirle E from distance. Second is Paved Site 2 in Circle L, third I don't remember which circle it is but you can see the trailer is on the only paved site here.

Barkham Park Pics - Nice, big area close to entrance. Looks like doggie heaven.

Hope this helps.

Wow, HeresLucy, thanks so much!! Your photos are a great help, and the dog park looks wonderful. Absolutely perfect for us! We'll probably end up staying longer than we had planned.

You are welcome. FYI -- I kept messing up my pics for circle E and F in my post so I just checked their CG map again. The pull thru sites are in F -- so I corrected the post one more time.
