Route 7 to Middlebury, VT:

Good to be back to family farmstead at Weybridge, VT:

The old family meadow.

"Love and forgetting might have carried them a little further up the mountain side"
(Frost, R: Two Look at Two)

Hidden Cave; old family secret.

Preamble:

In 1940, Robert Frost moved to Ripton, Vermont; he became the official poet laureate of the Green Mountain States, writing most of his poetry in and arround a rustic log cabin, with a view of an open field and the mountains. We were lucky enough to have gotten special permission to visit and access this facility, after the summer semester ended, to experience the place before major restorative renovations commence.

After walking the trails of Robert Frost's poetry we reach his cabin.

"Tree at my window, window tree,
My sash is lowered when night comes on;
But let there never be curtain drawn
Between you and me"

(Frost, R: Tree at my Window)

Sitting upon the rock he often thought on, discussing the symbolism of his poems.

"I have been treading on leaves all day until I am autumn-tired.
God knows all the color and form of leaves I have trodden on and mired."

(Frost, R: A Leaf Treader)

Further east on route 125 is the Middlebury College's Bread Loaf campus. The 19th century uninsulated yellow wood-framed buildings surrounded by mountains displaying autumn colours is a magical place for some of the world's most prestigious authors; for a few moments, making us believe we were writers attending the conference at which Frost participated annually.

The Stratford Inn, err, actually, the Waybury Inn in Middlebury, Vermont.

"You should wear more sweaters" (Loudon, Dick: Newhart Show)

Safe and sound, back at the Farmstead.

Back home, in the Quebec Townships.

Water and green, things you don't see around here in CA in the summer. Very nice.

After leaving the N.E. TC camporee we spent several days on Vermonts beautiful "Blue Highway" Route 7. No garish road signs, cooperative residents and good zoning have added to the charm and calm. Viva Vermont!

Thanks for reminding me of the days I lived in Salem N.H. next to Derry N.H. the home of the Frost Farm. It had some sorid history but was purchased for restoration in 1963. Ed

I flew to Vermont 15 years ago for dealer training. Instead of the 2 hour drive down the Interstate, I took some back roads, drove over Sugarbush mountain, and ended up lost. 7 wonderful hours and a few covered bridges later I arrived at my destination just in time for dinner. I loved Vermont......
