Chrysler has plans to build multiple electric vehicles, some based on existing platforms such as Jeep Wrangler and Dodge/Chrysler minivans. Very interesting!

That's all well & good, as long as their offerings don't carry a buy-in that's $40,000 like the Volt is going to be. The bloom is off the rose now for hybrids & electrics. Gas prices are low & hybrid supplies are high. Any Toyota dealer has numerous Prius' to choose from, and the used market is full of them. Americans want fuel-efficient gasoline-engined cars, like the Honda Fit and Civic, Toyota Yaris and Corolla, and others. No need to pay for the electric technology when gas is barely above a buck a gallon!! Too little too late, once again. Sounds like a broken record from the American makers. When will they learn?

Didn't take long for the bashing to begin. I doubt he even read the story.
Anyone who thinks gas is going to stay at these prices for very long is living in a dream world.

That's assuming that gas will remain cheap (relatively speaking). I don't believe a lot of folks are making that assumption. When or if the price of gas goes into the stratosphere again, the manufacturers that are gearing up now will be ready then, instead of chasing the eight ball again.

And if they did not make these changes now, two years from now when gas is $4 per gallon, you would be saying that the domestics did not learn from their previous mistakes, blah blah blah. Get over it. At least they are doing something. I just hope they survive so that this can happen.

Some people said the same thing about never seeing gas for less than $2.00 again!
Back to the topic. yes it`s great that they are going to be building EV`s. the only issue is price! just like the Aspen/Durango. $45k . I can buy alot of gas by going with a non-hybrid.

If you read the story, you will see that they are doing what they can to keep costs down. By using existing vehicles now they are controlling costs. And also by designing future vehicles to be equally functional with gas or electric powertrains they are planning ahead for all possibilities.
And let's be realistic. Sure the current gas prices are great, and I hope they stay here or even drop. But I know that by next summer when us rvers get going again in full swing that gas prices will be back up likely over $2 a gallon.

Here's some competition in the car market at a reasonable price from a Chinese battery manufacturer. Not that it would compete in the States, but it's evidence that the technology can be produced for that price. Problem is, in this country the government regulations keep us from getting a cheap alternative to anything.

I agree Fast Mopar.
Some folks wouldn't give credit where credit is due, even if Chrysler or GM/Ford came up with a vehicle that ran on CO2 and put out clean air and water as exhaust.

Some people have no idea how long it takes to develop, test, and build a vehicle. The manufacturers are doing what they can without a crystal ball. Give 'em a break!
