I would just stay on I-35 thru Texas (I-35W thru Ft Worth). There are always lots of suggestions about alternate highways to bypass various cities. But in reality, you will only be in city traffic for a few miles at a time and most of the time even that moves along pretty well, albeit sometimes slowly. Those slowdowns will still be faster than secondary highways with all the small towns and traffic lights. Just try to plan your arrivals in major cities on weekends or between 9 am and 3 pm on weekdays.

Ya, you gotta love those gps units, they even tell which lane to be in a mile ahead of time. Amazing

1951 Elmer,
Last winter we spent the month of March in Texas and here is another route you might consider. Drive south through Springfield, Illinois on to Arkansas then to eastern Texas. Head south to Beaumont, Galveston, Corpus Christi and then Brownsville.
This year we are going to spend the winter in Florida but next winter back to Texas along that route. Should mention that you will have to ferry the RV across two channels when going that route. Nice drive no large cities to go through. JMHO.

If all goes well, we'll be spending next winter in Rockport, TX. If anyone finds the time to PM me with tips on their dive/stay, I would appreciate it. We'll be leaving from Northern MN.

We are coming down next week. How are the diesel prices on US77? We will top off at the Flying J on the south side of Waco before we hit 77 but if diesel is cheap anywhere down 77 we don't want to miss an opportunity to save a buck or a hundred.

Falfurias is usually reasonable but there are also a few very reasonable stations in Mission in the Valley.
