I purcahsed a new 5er this past December and planning many trips this year and longer distance and time ones in 2010 when we are both retired. Are there any books or websites that give the diesel truck stops, Flying J's etc. to pull a big rig in for fuel?
I have a Travel 95 which is great going north south on the east coast, but once you go west, you need to keep watching the signs. i love to pre-plan my stops.

There is a book entitled "The Next Exit" which has all that info. Along any highway, you will find more truck stops than you would imagine and it has never been a problem. Don't let your tank get below 1/4 just in case.

All the truck stop networks have websites that show locations.
I also use gasbuddy.com, where I can get maps with diesel prices shown for various states, counties, and cities.

We FT and my preference is Flying J and since my range between fuel stops is more than 1,000 miles, I generally find one. FJ, Petro, TA all have free booklets at their truck stops that show their locations throughout the country. I try to pick one up each year. We also use the Next Exit and, our favorite, an old edition of The Exit Authority to show us where the big rig parking friendly businesses are - primarily used to find an easy decent lunch stop. We also carry a paperback book that is published annually called the National Guide to Truck Stops. It is useful when traveling off the superslab as it shows all truck stops and fuel stops, by state, regardless of whether or not they are on an interstate exit. It shows the size of the TS, number of big rig parking spaces, and services offered such as laundry, food etc. Should be able to pick one up at most decent truck stops for under $15.

Truck stops have books listing all the truck stops in the country. It's what I used when driving OTR and a small book is handy for quick look ups while driving.

Texas Gas Buddy
You have to get down to at least the state level to select between regular, mid grade, premium or diesel.

Most of our fulltiming friends with a 5er set up fill their trucks the night before they leave and then after they reach the destination and unhitch again. However, for vacation type travel I can see where you would need to fill up enroute and, just like us MHers, start looking when you get to 1/2 a tank. I'm not sure why you think it will be a problem in the west. We never have a problem, there are truck stops on the US Highways as well as the interstates. BTW - when you get to fulltiming, one of the things you'll learn is to NOT do so much planning - but it does take practice.
