I remember someone some time ago having an issue where the TC wasn't supposed to be used off the truck and the fresh water tank fell out the bottom - it wasn't supposed to be full when the TC was off the truck. Other than making me check out how mine was put together, that's all I remember...

I use spray in Rino Liner with no mat. I was told by the dealer I bought it from to use one or the other. So I never got a mat. Maybe I should? I used a spray that the guy at Rino said was sticker and the one recommended for campers.

I have used my TC off the truck, and found that the floor does get soft in spots without anything underneath it. The manufacturer recommends not using it off the truck or if off the truck supporting the floor. So I use 2 sawhorses set in a foot from the ends of the floor, the firring strips the previous owners installed to get some cab clearance act as floor joists running the lenght of the camper and the sawhorses just give the camper a place to rest. If I remember correctly, I think someone posted a while back that they use 2x8s and tripod stabilizing jacks for trailers under the camper when using it off the truck.

True, but I think the best is Line-X + rubber mat.
Line-X because it's got a true nationwide warranty, not just from the shop that sprayed it like Rhino, and the bed mat on the rougher surface of the Line-X doesn't go anywhere.

gm412,
I had both the spray in liner and the mat. The mat does the job! It keeps the camper from shifting. The spray in liner never helped much. And the plastic liners are a disaster with campers.

The reason we bought a TC was to be able to unload and use the truck. Yes you can use the camper without additional support by lowering it (assuming the specific brand doesn't prohibit it), but we prefer to use 2- 5ft 2x4's spanning crosswise under the front of the box and about 3/4 back, and support them on screw up aluminum stands on wooden pads. This adds a LOT of stability and also adds support to the floor. The 2x's store behind the rear seat of the truck and the stands and wooden pads store in the dead space between the camper box and truck bed where there is no access until the camper is off.

We off load quite often. No problems to date but it can feel a little shaky when the 80lb dog gets to bouncing around.
After off loading and loading the TC a few times it gets to be old hat. Just take your time the first few times and all should be well.
If memory serves the TC that VintageRacer is refering to was an Arctic Fox that someone had as a seasonal camper on thier property and over filled thier fresh water tank. I think they just had a very rare issue but I'm sure it could happen with any TC.
dbkennel also has a point about the ins. If it is on the truck it would be coverd as cargo. That why we have a seperate policy just for the TC. We pay about $300 a year but it gives us a pre determined replacement value of $25k and hefty liability also.

We used to use ours off the truck at campgrounds until one day I was talking to my insurance agent and he told me I am only insured under my auto ins while it is on my truck, or my home owners insurance while off the truck at home.
so check with your insurance company first...
