Armed with a Spectrum Analyzer I did some comparison tests in the coach on the Winegard Sensar "Batwing" antenna on UHF only, with and without the addition of the new Winegard "Wingman" snap-in 3 element director they just came out with. I saw it in Quartzsite and it got me curious.
Those familiar with reading these images will note that there is definitely a marked increase in gain as well as improved side and rear rejection as would be expected. One will also note that as the antenna swings toward 170 degrees that several new carriers appear from Ventura, 50 miles to the West. There are one or two LP's scattered in the mix between the two markets as well. As noted, this test was limited to the UHF spectrum only since the additional elements will have no affect on VHF whatsoever.
Those that can't read these, the bottom line is that the antenna does pick up about 3db which is about what was expected. When you're on the hairy edge of a DTV signal, that 3db will make all the difference. For $20, I'll keep it.

Looking at the entire UHF Spectrum (both Analog and Digital carriers) on Mt. Wilson (Target) aprox. 30 miles downrange from Santa Clarita (and extremely multipath'ed).

thanks for the test results,
now how about an subjective difference, does the wingman let you watch the ventura station, that can't be seen without it ?
when watching the locals from mount wilson is their less picture freeze with the wingman than without.

It's a funny path that's only a few miles wide, after that Wilson falls off 40db+ anywhere else in SVC. Maybe Ventura, but I don't know how many on-off cycles those plastic rivets will stand. I own several really nice HP lab quality attenuators, but all are 50ohm

Thanks for the actual testing. I really get tired of people hooking it up seeing no significent gains and then slaming the product. As your results indicates it gives about 3db of gain. Is that going to get a station from 100 miles away? No. If you have a station that is blocking or breaking up will it help? Yes.

Where did you fond it for $20? Every place I've seen it was $30 plus shipping.

I greatly appreciate Jeff's post and intend to get the booster. I fully expect we will need it and I surely don't wish to replace my batwing until I am forced to do so.
