We have recently found out about this festival and wondered how good it is? We would be coming from Georgia and also have questions about the weather? It looks like a fun place on line but need some real time advice and suggestions on where to camp, etc.
Thanks for the help.

We live 16 miles from Holland and have been to the tulip festival numerous times. The best place to camp would definately be Oak Grove which is a nice, full hook up campground. It caters more to retired people in larger rvs. The state park is also nice. There are wooded campsites and campsites right on the beach, though on concrete. There are full hook ups available at the beach campground and newer, always immaculate restrooms. As far as weather in early May - it's a toss up. It could be in the 50s and sunny or warmer and rainy. The one thing about our MI weather is - if you don't like it, stick around a bit, and it will change!

I would book now if not yesterday though just in case. You might find a lot of campgrounds not open yet or not at full facilities like water since it can still freeze that time of year. May 15th is usually when campgrounds start to fully open.

As for weather, as noted it could be anything. It could be in the 70s or it could be snowing (or both a couple days apart). I have mowed my yard starting end of March before and also shoveled snow the week before Memorial Day so it's a toss up. Just watch the weather before you leave and be prepared for just about anything. It's been sooooo cold all winter here that hopefully we'll be in for some global warming for spring.

Eary May you get decient weather, don't scare away our southern friends, MI needs there tourism $$'s But really it could be most anything. I have never been to Holland for the tullips but I hear there are awesome. You might have a problem getting a site if you haven't already. They fill fast for festivle, really anytime for that matter Holland is a nice area with lots to see.

Tulip Time is right around the corner for us. Two months and I will be in my Dutch costume giving tours for the buses that come. May 3-10 is the Official Tulip Time. Wed. May 6 is the Volksparade with the street scrubbing, Klompen Dancers, maybe the governor (last year we had Miss America which was much better) to start off the parades. Thursday is the Kinder Parade in which 6-8000 school students from all over the area march. Saturday is the Musik Parade when bands from highschools, colleges, & civic bands come from miles around ( some from Pennsylvania) and march. The parade route is about 1 1/2-2 miles long (depending on the parade). We have bleachers available through Tulip Time. In addition to the Oak Grove (no alcohol allowed), the 2 State Park CGs, Dutch Treat (in Zeeland) during Tulip Time the Ottawa County Fairgrounds is open for camping. The fairgrounds are actually closer than Oak Grove & the State Parks but do not have sewer at the site. They have a dump station. We have a fun time during that period. If you have any questions just send me a PM. We have 12 miles of tulips planted along the sides of Tulip Lane that takes a tour through the city. Windmill Island has a 248 yr. old Windmill that is the last one allowed to be imported from the Netherlands, a 100+ yr. old carousel, and Dutch stores on the island. Since Heinz has had their pickle plant here since 1897 we sometimes get the Heinz horses for the parades. We also have evening entertainment at many different places each evening. I will have to check who our stars are for this year. Our Christian High School and Holland Public High School both put on very good shows also.

We just got the news this morning that the Oakridge Boys are on the schedule this year again. About every 3-5 years they come here and this is the year again.

Just glancing at the schedule of events and COSTS for tickets to each, one can spend a LOT OF MONEY at this festival. So, just what can we see for little or no $?
