We have a PA campground about 30 miles away, and it is off the beaten path-but we love going there! We can reserve any campsite that is not already reserved, and we have our favorite spots there. On April 1st (the first day of the season)I will be on the phone reserving a site for spring break, and for later in the summer. We get half price Sunday through Thursday nites, so we can stay for 5 nites. Sometimes we go to a nearby national forest campground for the weekend before (with no hookups) and then go on to Cascade Lake, the PA campground.

We have used PA on trips as well, but only as an overnight stopover for $10 or $15.

I noticed on a lot of the campground websites, they said to call for a reservation and to tell them we are a PA member.

I save usually up to $200 or more every summer with PA.
I have never called for a reservation in any of them unless it is a destination one, in a popular tourist area.

I have never stayed at one that says reservation only.

I have stayed at several that say Reservations recommended. But they have always had room when I got there without calling to make a reservation. I have never been turned away yet for not calling in the last 4 years I have had PA.

I have talked many of them that have a only 2 or 3 day stay on the web site into giving me up to a week or more at PA price when I pull the CASH out.

We really like Passport America. We travel between Calif & Montana twice a year and use it going both ways. Sometimes we go a southern route, sometimes a northern route. It saves tons of $$$. We travel in April & late Sept or early Oct so we don't use it in busy summertime. But we also use fairgrounds, Cabela's or Don Wright's free campground books. There's lots of ways to save $$$ without staying at Wal Mart or Cracker Barrel.

We actually purchases PA just to use it once, since it saved about $150 in a San Diego Campground. We will use it again, but the opportunity hasn't happened. We did not have any different site than those that did not use PA, and it worked well.

Happy Travels!

We've been members of Passport America for several years now and rarely make reservations at any of them...and then only if they say reservations are required.

I usually call about noon and ask if they have any open spots. If they are filling up, they usually suggest we make a reservation, or they will ask when we expect to get there. Since we usually stop by 2:00 pm, most often the reply is "come on in - we've plenty of sites that early in the afternoon!"

I'm planning a several week trip in June and there are a couple of PA campgrounds that would fit into my plans. Will they take a PA reservation this early or would I have to wait until near June to see if they will have availability?

They are all different (they don't belong to a chain). The only way to tell is to call or email them. If they are in a popular tourist spot, they will probably ask you for a credit card # to reserve, but will not charge until you arrive. (If you cancel too close to day of arrival or simply no show, you will most likely be charged.)

We are in one right now in TN - within a mile of interstate but no noise, FHU & pullthru for $13. We love PA!

We just purchased P/A and used it for the first time last week. The first campground we stayed at for 4 days paid for itself.
