I'm ready to buy...and...will post the result to a new thread when the time comes. It will be one of these two options, but unfortunatley I am almost afraid of making my decision public in light of the tone this thread has taken.
Frankly, I have grown a little weary of getting notices of a new posting only to find that it is another slam of the ping-pong ball across the table. If there were enough new facts flying back-and-forth with the ball that would be great, but alas, it appears facts are falling behind accusations and innuendos.
I am confident that I will be very content with whatever unit I ultimately purchase and the facts provided by everyone along the way in this post provided a great deal of information to help me make an educated decision.
Thanks to you all for the insight...Later and Out...Away...

Shawn I think you are smart not to tell what you decide to do. You are correct that you will be content with either system.
The only real point is to get a TPMS. Heck if they only gave us a reading before each trip they would be worth the few hundred they cost today. Sorry for noise that was in no way your fault.

For the OP I have emailed the TST company for a manual. Their site is seriously lacking in details. If I get it, we'll see if it sheds some light on the specs and capabilities of the system.
For the Doran or Pressure Pro go directly to there site all the info you will need is posted and easily found.

FYI...
I emailed TST at 9:15 this morning asking for an electronic copy of their Users Manual. By 10:00am, I had a response and an attached PDF of the manual. In addition, I had a voicemail at the house by 11:00am. It does appear that the folks at TST are putting good effort towards customer needs.
Now that I have comparable info on both technologies, I will nail one down in the next couple days...I hope. I may even share the decision in this thread...who knows?
Thanks again...Later...Away...

There's a message that you acknowledge when going to their website. It says not to use with rubber valve stems. Aren't most toads going to need to have the rubber valve stems replaced?

I think replacing the rubber ones for steel is a smart move. I believe the rubber flexing with added weight of the sensor could cause the rubber to crack and fail. I see many rubber valve stems on trailers I weigh that are cracking and split from age.

Took my toad to Discount Tire last week. They installed the steel stems for just over $6 a wheel. Cheap enough to not take a chance on rubber stems.

They took the tires off, mounted the stems and then balanced for $6??????? Where is that place seems an unbelievable price.

I got the same $6 each price from my Discount Tire. Turns out our 5er already has metal stems. I agree it is an amazing price for such a worthy safety feature.

Decision made...
I spent about 20 minutes on the phone with a representative of TST Friday, and about the same with the folks at Doran. They were both very helpful, but one had more "specific" answers, while the other seemed more "canned." After this discussion and some additional research, I purchased the TST system on Friday. I asked many questions of them both to get responses to some of the concerns raised in this thread. Although there are a couple key things about the Doran I like a little better, there were also a couple things about the TST that I found equally inviting.
For those that are curious, and with no desire for a point/counter-point discussion, here are some of the reasons I opted for the TST system:
- I really like the TST temperature capabilities. After learning that it measures ambient temperature through the valve itself, I find this a more precise way to meausure for potential issues related to dragging brake or wheel hub issues. Although pressure will rise with temperature, it would be a potentially slower reading.
- I really like the Doran's fast leak protection of 2.8psi lost in 12 seconds triggering an alarm. However, the TST offers a similar trigger with a loss of 6psi in 12 seconds. With a baseline pressure of 80psi all around, I believe the 6psi in 12 seconds will serve the purpose well.
- Admitedly, I like the "look" of the Doran better as well, only not 50% more with all other capabilities being pretty much equal.
Thanks again to you all for your input...and don't be surprised if I post a followup once the unit arrives and I begin planning the installation.
