What loop is best in Holland State Park for the 1st week of May? (Thinking the beach could be too cold, etc)
Woops!! Just read on the St.Park website that out of staters must pay an $8+$6 per day for MH+toad. $14 per day PLUS the campsite? IS THAT RIGHT?

Out of state sticker is $29, good for all state parks for the whole calendar year. Not sure about a toad, but that's what I've paid for the TV and fiver. Beach campground is just that, pretty much on the beach between dunes; sites are lines painted on blacktop. Some sites are FHU. Other loops are a little further inland, pretty much wooded. Also nice. Depends what you're looking for.

If you are staying multiple nights, you should be able to get an annual permit for the $29 mentioned plus a nominal fee for a duplicate for the toad.
I don't remember the name of the loop, but I prefer the loop on the west end, or to the left coming in (of the campground off of the lake). A little more open and more shade trees. The east side has more trees and appears to be less open to me.

There are 31 FHU sites at the beach CG. The 2 CGs are actually about 1/2 mile apart. If you don't want to pay that fee I would suggest either the Ottawa County Fairgrounds or Dutch Treat in Zeeland. Zeeland is just across the street from Holland and Dutch Treat is actually the same distance to Tulip Time and even closer to the Tulip Farms. We stayed at all of them before moving here.

To each his own, I guess. I prefer the east loop because there are more trees. Anyway the description above is accurate.
And yes, there are daily vehicle fees in addition to camping. And yes, there is acharge for the toad, though smaller than for the first unit. If you are stying more than 3 days, the annual permit is generally cheaper.
