We have a Garmin StreetPilot 2720 that I bought DH a few years ago to use in the motorhome. It works perfectly in the car in between trips, but in the MH we keep losing the satellite. That makes the GPS pretty useless, as you can't rely on it. We have a Class C on a Freightliner Coronado chassis. We used to have a Freightliner Columbia toter, and had no problem with the GPS in that truck. Any ideas on why we're losing the satellite, or how to fix it?

May be setting to far under your overhang and not have a clean sight to the satellites. Try to put it all of the way up to the windshield, still may not be enough site. good Luck

Your 2720 is one of the previous generation with an older receiver design. You might not want to spend the money for an upgrade but the newer models (Nuvi, etc) have an much-improved high-sensitivity receiver that should work much better for you.

I use the StreetPilot 2720, also. Normally, the only time that I lose the satellites is when I take her off the dash; and put her on the floor. Then, she starts hollowing, "Help, I can't see". With the "C", she needs to be positioned relatively close to a window, with the 'eye' pointed toward the glass, to operate properly.
Is yours mounted to the windsheild or do you use with the beanbag sitting on the dash? Is your dash relatively flat or is it one that has a deep angle, which has the 'eye' pointed down? If the latter, adjust the angle of the GPS on the beanbag and turn so it is sitting as flat as possible. You may have to make a 'stand' that it is sitting flat, so the 'eye' is pointed to the windshield.
Hope you are able to resolve your problem.

I had the same problem with my gps, and the solution I came up with is a "hockey puck" external on the roof. Now I don't lose birds at all.

Try one of these inexpensive external GPS External Antenna Note that this is an amplified antenna, not a hockey puck GPS. I use one with my 2720 & rarely have a problem.

Looks like the one for my Garmin except for the connector. Mine's magnetic mount, I would assume that this one is also?

Thanks everyone! To get any reception at all I have to push the GPS unit all the way to the windshield (usually in the corner on the passenger side, where it's hard to see), and the dash slopes down toward the windshield at that point. Even then we lose the signal regularly; I'm guessing the cabover overhang is causing the problem. I took a look at the antenna in the link provided, and it seems like a good solution, but I'm technologically challenged. How do you hook the external antenna to the GPS unit? Are there cords running out the window or something? Are these complicated to install?
