We are going to visit Mt. Rushmore (coming from the Olympia Wa.) and we want to tour the Forest River plant in Goshen In.
Is there a way to avoid the Chicago Cluster. Is there a Road/Highway around.
Thanks Lee

Seriously being a frequent travel of the "Chicago Cluster" as you term it. It isn't so much the roadway itself but rather WHEN you choose to traverse that area.
My humble advice pick very early in the morning or very late in the evening so that you avoid the surge of rush hour traffic flowage one way or the other. Best advice pick a lane, sit back, set the cruise control, let the nuts fly by left right up down etc and befoire you know it your home free on the Indiana Tollway.
If that doesn't please you a two lane route we soemtime take Rt 47 at Morris, IL down to Rt 17 east toward Kankakee, IL to Rt 1 north to Rt 14 into IN to Rochester, IN then north on Rt 25 to Rt 15 into Goshen, IN. It is two lanes but a nice pace across the countryside.

go down I-39 West of Chicago to I-80 and all you will have to deal with is a short length of 80, so hit that at 3 a.m.

A little extreme. Since the major construction (except for some around the interchange with I-65) is done, 80 isn't really all that bad. Rush hour starts eastbound about 3 PM and lasts until about 7 PM; otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it. I-39 to I-80 is a good option, as it avoids all the close-in Chicago "bypasses" which are heavily used by suburbanites with an I-Pass transponder. Much traffic, lots of construction this year (especially on I-294) and if you don't have I-Pass, the tolls will cost you double.
Call ahead to Forest River for a tour appointment. Not sure what their schedule will be as everyone's production is way down. It's a good tour, though - we learned a lot and really enjoyed ours last summer.
