Hi. We're looking at driving to the Outer Banks without our MH this time and are looking for a place on the Outer Banks that would be on the beach and yet have some interesting places around in walking distance. From what I see on Google Earth, it looks like everything is just a string of motels and that you'd just stay on the beach and have to drive to just about anything...

So, looking for suggestions for hotels or cottages/cabins with some restaurants or shops around... more of a village atmosphere... anywhere on the Outer Banks. Suggestions appreciated.

Everything here is spread out. Rentals are not going to be within walking distance of the "Sites". Unless you are just coming for the shoping, you will have to drive to the different places to see the history of this sand pile.

Does it require a ferry to get to Ocracoke Island?

We even saw folks riding golf carts in the street in Ocracoke! Loved our visit!
