Noticed the top step is sticking out about 1.5 inches and the bottom step about 3 inches.
Will lube them when I get home. I use silicon spray. What do you use?
Any ideas for first echelon maintenance if lubrication doesn't fix the problem?

I use penatrating oil. Check under your step for a grease fitting.
My last coach had one there.

I just use spray-on "white grease" on mine. Pick up at any auto parts store.

Treefrog, I hadn't done anything to my steps until they stopped retracting completely also. Wound up having to use a spray "degreaser" to clean all the "old" lubricant and dirt away. Then reapplied a good lube that DOESN'T attract dirt. No problems since. I think the cleaning needs to be done on a routine basis....IMHO, of course
