They are rapidly disappearing and going to be extinct soon. Google it up. They are having problems reproducing, because of all the artificial lights humans have placed around their haunts. Too bad, I liked them when I saw them down in the lesser 48.

We have them here in coastal Maine. They are just starting to come out even though it has been really cool and rainy so far this summer. Did you know they eat mosquitoes and before they become fireflies they are glow worms! On dark nights you can see the glow worms on the lawn!
