This is exactly why we are adding a simple, no frills pop-up. I want something I can quickly and easily hook to the Jeep and head out with little prep time.
When we were weekenders and working, we just kept the trailer loaded. Only thing we had to add was perishable foods...took less than 15 minutes to load, hookup and go...I would quite often take the TT to a nearby park on Friday evening and call DH to meet me there after work!
That's what we do, too. I keep my TT packed all the time. All we need to do is throw in some clothes and raid the refrigerator. We often camp at the lake about 20 minutes away. When we're up there it feels like we're a million miles away, but we can go back to the house if we have an appointment or one of our teens has a commitment.

It's very common to camp close to home. You can take more trips that way. When our girls were smaller we would regularly camp at a campground owned by a local amusement park. It really wasn't a bad campground, trees, good sites, a pool. Hubby would take the trailer on Thursday night, go to the park with us, and take my car home. Then as soon as he got off work on Friday he would join us at the campground. We had yearly passes to the park and I would take the girls twice a week when school was out, but those weekend trips were the best. We stayed till the park closed and took the shuttle back to the campground. The girls really loved being with their daddy.

Twice a year we camp 1/2 mile from home at local RV park with our Good Sams chapter. We don't even get out of first gear to get there!

Yes we go twice a year to a campground close to home. It is usually for a 4 day weekend. Gets us away from the routine and feels like a mini vacation.

Our favorite campground is 49 miles driveway to driveway. My wife and I are still working stiffs (38 and 42) so we decided to get a seasonal site for our 5er. We leave it in the same spot all season and everything is still set up and ready to go when we get there. It makes the weekends feel 4-5 days long since we don't have to do allof the prep work at home we normally would.
Since my wife works in aviation and has been furloughed for 7 weeks, she, our son and one of our dogs have been staying out there almost full time. I commute to work every day. About 35 minutes each way.
With the economy and furloughs, we can't afford the time off and travel with the limited vacation time we have this year.
We love the set up and it works great for us. RV park is the largest in Kansas with many ameneties. Snowhawk probably knows which one it is.
When we retire, then we can take the time to see what's around the bend, but for now, it is quality time as a family with our 10 year old. This is making memories that none of us will forget.

My wife and I have been camping at different sites throughout the summer and have really been enjoying our time out. We've found a couple sites we really like within 2 hours from home and this coming weekend we'll be staying at a place 45 minutes from home. We drove there in the car this past weekend just to look at the site itself.
I leave the office at 4:00 on Friday and I'm back at 7:00 on Monday morning.
We've also been to Savannah Georgia, Cody Wyoming, and Tennessee twice this year.

Sometimes we camp in the driveway - does that count ;-)
We normally camp 3 out of 4 weekends at one of a few campgrounds within 45min - 1hr. Its nice to not have a long drive after work - we can be set up and enjoying a cool adult beverage in about 1 1/2 hours from when we get home from work. And the stress just melts away :-) The funny thing is we have a 30 acre farm that is just beautiful!

Having had a popup previously and now a 5th wheel, I think it's much less setup/takedown time with a 5er.

If we didn't stay within 100 miles of home, we wouldn't have time to go. We own a business and haven't had a day off other than holidays, weekends and sick days in over 4 years. There are so many campgrounds around us within that 100 miles that we have only stayed more than once at 2 campgrounds in the 2 years we've been camping, and that's only because we've enjoyed them so much.
