At least let it be part of the raising mechanism and not part of the holding.

This is my left front jack. The weld attaching the jack handle sleeve had poor penetration. It held up to quite a few years before succumbing to cracking. There was rust in the weld fracture on both sides. I never noticed any flexing.

The bummer was that my camper was at the county fair with it blocking in 4 other RVs. I ended up using the truck jack and a bunch of blocks to lift the left front of the camper while using the other three jacks. With the weight off, I was able to push the pump shaft in and take the slack out of the jack so that when I lowered the truck jack it would stay in place.

Until I get this welded back up, my camper is stuck on the truck.

I tried both. That's what the marks on the shaft and U shaped metal are from.

The vice grips held a bit better, but then the metal started ripping. Nether would get me even one pump.

I've seen plenty of hydraulics on Craigslist. Or perhaps it's time to retire those and pick up a set of electrics.

Thanks for the offer. I dropped it of with a buddy at lunch today and he's going to get it back to me when we go camping together this weekend.

OK, I tracked down BigJimCruising's thread.

What you're suggesting is that I replace a fairly reliable hydraulic jack with a failure prone electric one? I've replaced the O-rings, and as long as you keep them recent, the hydraulic jacks don't fail to hold the camper very often.

My camper will go over on it's side if a front jack fails...

That's an easy fix. Glad you got it on the truck and back home without problems.

I would have welded a piece of pipe, or any other scrap metal I could find, to it and been on my way. Of course mobile welding is part of my job...
