I'm with heavyputer "Some fridges that are on slideouts have a problem venting."
About the only option is to add a fan to help circulate more air outside.

On this model RV they mounted the fridge in the gally slideout so it's under my awning and never in direct sun. It is the largest RV fridge I’ve ever owned. It’s a Dometic model NDR 1292 – measures 57” x 32.
The trouble I’m having is that my fridge side won’t stay cold in warm weather. Much worse than the other RV units I’ve had. It seems at best to hold only about 40-45 degrees over outside ambient. So for example last week it was 85 degrees outside and inside the fridge by late afternoon it was 45. (without us opening up the fridge at all.)
I’m using a digital wireless on a middle shelf to monitor temp. On the good news my freezer side is really cold – showing neg2 or better, it is just I can’t seem to keep the fridge side cool. It does recover overnight back down to the low 30’s, but on warm days everything gets warm.
Does not seem to make a difference if on electric or if I force to gas.
I’ve checked my door seals as best I can, don’t over pack and limit when we open the fridge doors.
I’ve not camped in warmer weather for a while, but 85 is not THAT warm. This unit works great in cooler weather (anything less than 80) and I have trouble keeping things from freezing then.
Any suggestions? Does this sound like my Dometic is working properly and I just need to live with it – or is there some issue?
thanks

I have a Dometic in my houseboat and it will keep about the same as yours, it is vented out the side as well. I was concerned that food would go bad because when it got really hot outside the frig would only keep about 45 degrees. So I did some research and found that most home frigs set at normal only keep at about 45 degrees. Asked a refrigeration guy about it and was told that most home frigs are factory set to be between 38 and 44 degrees..... I have not worried about it since... I have never had food go bad in it, and it cools down to around 36 degrees overnight.

"It seems at best to hold only about 40-45 degrees over outside ambient." It must be pretty hot in there.
I hope you meant 40-45 degrees UNDER outside ambiant. Anyway its sounds like 40-45 is pretty normal.
Some folks order a recirculating fan to help keep the temps uniform inside the box. This guy has been selling this fan setup on Ebay forever. Lots of people seeem to like the thing. It looks like a nce compact ittle unit.

I got a brand new Dometic 4 weeks ago. The owners manual says the temperature control is completely automatic...and that I can only change the temperature (via moving this thing called a "thermistor") 2-3 degrees either way.
The book also goes on to say that the freezer will be from 0-14...and the fridge will be from 38-42.
So far...two RV trips, both gas & elecatric, all seems well.

That confirms the old RV tech's OVER 40 degree spread rule is BAD news for a frig.

chevman You're right, it'll tell you the light is on!
Deen guess you didn't understand the first part of the story. If you hand push the lever that shuts off the light and it stay on this will tell you of a problem.

At 85 degrees outside the unit should have no problem maintaining 38 to 42 inside. Are you running on gas or electric. If gas check the flame to be sure it is giving you a full flame...If on electric check to be sure both elements are working...I found one of the electric elements on mine was disconnected and that was the reason for the higher temps...If both of the above are OK then have a qualified tech check it out...also I would look to e sure there is not an obstruction with the air flow on the condenser side...hope this helped and good luck...

Save some money and use this if you need an interior frig cooling fan. I can tell you that they do make a bid difference in the profromance of the frig.
