First winter retired and first time we can go to Quartzite. We will also do the Tucson Rock show the first part of February but want to see the all the RV goodies and the commotion in Quarzite. When is the best time to go??? If not boondocking - where to try and stay??

Quartz is a fun spot to experience . We have stayed on the BLM 2nd gate house on the left on highway 95 to wards Yuma . Ask the gate guard where the Magic Circle or Birds Without Feathers people are staying . They have a really good time there.Have fun in QZ

we have stayed at Desert Gold for the past 3 winters, really a nice park. has everything you need or could want, including a heated pool and very large hot tub. Black Rock rv park is also very nice and added a pool this past winter.Keeps you about 15 minutes out of the hustle and bustle of the traffic and dust)of the "town"! Also quiet out there. The first 3 weeks of january are great. Lots and lots of vendors, since we are rockhounds we shop Desert Gardens rock and gem show alot. Also Tyson wells, which is on the corner of Hwy 95 and Kuehne st.south side of the I-10. LaPosa south is good for boondocking, as the above person suggested. About 70 rv parks in Quartzsite(don't think any have a pool)could be wrong. The QIA(building ) has a powpow in Jan, about the last thur-Sun, at least 500 vendors outside and the building is also filled. You either hate it or love it(we love it) and will be back again this winter.Good place to eat is the friday fish fry at Grubstake-north on Hwy 95, about 4 blocks north of the freeway. Also Moon mountain cafe on Moon Mountain road(also north side of freeway.) Have fun planning..see ya there!!

Don't know about "birds without feathers," but did discover by accident that the "Magic Circle" is a clothing-optional group and they are usually in La Posa South area. It's well posted however. We just didn't read the signs in time.

Magic Circle and Birds w/o feathers are special areas for those who enjoy the phrase "clothing-optional" which means mostly clothing when they go to town etc. not in the campsite. So, if you don't go for that sort of thing, I would not suggest camping in that area. Plenty of room though in BLM land and in the past few yrs. it has not been that crowded.
