The bedroom roof AC hums loud when it kicks in. I am comparing this hum to the other two roof AC's in the coach and they are quiet when they kick in.
Is there a way i can reduce this loud hum?
I can't sleep in the night when it goes in/out.
I get the same hum when i run it in the heat pump mode.

The hum is the compressor running and usually get les noisy after it has run for a while but doesn't go away.

I understand that...
What i meant to say is the bedroom compressor is humming loder than the kitchen or living area compressors. The bedroom compressor didn't use to be so loud.

I think you have a problem, your lucky just one is humming. The start capacitor has shorted out and the compressor is locked up. STOP using that unit till you get it fixed, it could start a fire. The hum is the compressor trying to pump. Call Duo-therm right away.

Now how in the world can yall say he has a bad compressor or he'll get used to it? Could be lots of things wrong, some serious and some not. He could get it fixed with just a capacitor, or may even have a loose wire.
Always did amaze me that some technicians could diagnos a bad compressor and never even get out of the truck.
To the OP- Get a qualified HVAC tech. to take a look at it.

The fan runs fine in LOW or HI mode. No hum there and pumps plenty of air.
I will check on the capacitor short.
The compressor runs and pumps cold air but is loud.
Also after running a while (say 40mins or so at outside 85F, 50% humidity), it trips the circuit breaker in the coach.
That tells me something is not right.
I have to get on the roof this weekend.
Aside from capacitor short, what else should i check for?
I assume i just measure continuity between compressor connections and the capacitor connections and they should NOT be open, right?
If the compressor is bad or dying, do i have to replace the whole AC?

Caymann, I just had my front air replaced last week under warranty. It just locked up completely (from what the tech said). Dometic (Duo-therm) made the Penguin as a 'closed' unit and replaced the whole unit.
But beware, one of their factory's burned earlier this year and everything they make is slow in coming. My air unit took 4 weeks.

Mine sounded like a humming/buzzing noise, that was louder out side the MH then inside. I went to the dealership, to have it checked. They said it was a hose laying against the roof. I assume it was vibrating against the metal drip pan.
When they tied it up, off the roof, the humming/buzzing noise went away.

Caymann, sounds like you are on the right track. Turn the system on, get up on the roof, take the cover off and see for yourself whats going on. You should be able to tell what is making the noise for sure. Good point above, check to see that nothing is vibrating. As far as the electrical check goes, if the system is running now, about the only thing to check is how many amps the compressor and fan are pulling. No need to ohm, it already runs.
From what you describe, it runs a while and then trips the breaker, plus it hums or makes a loud noise, it could be the compressor going bad, or a bad capacitor. The amp meter should tell you that.
Yes, the compressor or the fan can be changed out, including any capacitors.
Try to get a name, model and serial off the compressor itself, let me know and maybe I can help you find one.
Good luck
