Found a dripping coolant hose leak yesterday. GM 8.1 L gas engine on our 2004 Sightseer P32 chassis. Small diameter 1/2 or 3/4 ???

Am thinking it would be a good time to replace all the hoses. And get new clamps (maybe stainless steel). This are original hoses.

MH at a repair shop now. Whadda you think?

BTW, I tried to find a complete hose replacement kit for the 8.1 L. No luck. Can someone post a live link?

Thank you

Most of the house hoses in my 1972 conversion are original. I replaced radiator hoses 3 years ago when I recored the radiator. Didn't have any problem with hoses, but figured out that I got my money worth.
Bought big size hoses at Fleet Pride. 3/4 " heater hose was available at local hardware story.

When one goes bad, others will surely follow. Replacing all of the hoses at one
time saves time in the future. Heat is a killer of rubber. Check all rubber hoses
including power steering, wiper hoses, and rubber brake lines.

I think something is wrong. While heat hurts the rubber, there is no way that you should be having problems with failing hoses. 10 to 15 years should be much more typical. Unless you have some poor grade hoses, but something isn't right.

Hi,

I agree that it seems too soon to have to replace those hoses. Are you sure it was a leaking hose? The 8.1 liter had a problem with a weeping freeze plug? (Somebody help me out, I forgot what was actually leaking. I remember tightening mine, and it was on the driver side of the engine, a pretty common problem from what I remember.)

It could be the hose clamps just needed to be tightened or maybe one broke. Did the hose actually burst?

Noel, go to this web site http://www.oemys-performance.com

You will see he has cross references for all 8.1 coolant hoses etc. He has lots of cross reference numbers for numerus 8.1 Vortec parts. I have used serveral. His web site is amazing. Hope this helps.

I'd replace all of the hoses, belts, plug wires, brake fluid, coolant and thermostat after 5 years, but then I'm not fond of being towed in off of the interstate.

Thank you for all the prompt responses.

The problem was not a hose but a leaking "heater valve" connected to a 3/4 inch or so hose, high up on the passenger side.

I did have brake fluid changed out few weeks ago and last year had power steering, transmission fluids changed as well as coolant. Belt is three years old.
