When we first got ours we were taking a trip, so I was trying out the different voices to see what they sounded like. After the 4th one, DW said, "I think you should go back to the 2nd one." I asked why. She said "She seems to have a better sense of direction." Yes, DW is blonde. Oh well.

OK, I've read through 5 pages of responses and they all are using female
voices and complain about the directions she gives. Maybe you should select a male voice and get better directions.

I actually know the name of my GPS voice. She is Samantha according to the people at Garmin. I do not like her at all. Most of the time she is saying "recalculating."

During the last three weeks, I have spent several hours on the phone with Garmin trying to get some errors out of my GPS. Then yesterday I spent 5 hours downloading a file from Garmin (the first attempt resulted in a corrupt file) and then spent three hours extracting it.

My old Street Pilot III was never wrong and never gave me bad directions. This new wide screen version is wrong 50% of the time, tells me I do not live where I do, takes me 20 miles out of the way to a town 15 miles from me and loses satellite reception once the unit is turned on for several hours. Had I not broken the antenna on the SPIII, I would still be using it. Slower to load, slower directions but always on the mark.

It takes 43 muscles to frown, 12 muscles to smile but only 2 muscles to pull the trigger on a Colt 1911. Well I am old, lazy and tired of smiling.

I talk to "Jill", curse her, yell, thank her for getting me out of a jam, tell her to 'not get her panties in a knot' when she's urging me to turn, etc.

I went to the poifactory website where they posted directions to insert your own words/phrases instead of the 'canned' ones. So now, instead of 'recalculating' Jill says "you Doofus! You missed the turn" at which point I threaten to reprogram her at the next stop!

I admit it, I did talk to it, for about the first 30 minutes on the 1st trip we took with it. That's about how long it took to get sick of it talking to me and put it on mute, haven't talked to or heard from it since.

HAL and I have frequent conversations. I always listen to him. HAL is programmed to never make a mistake.

Mine is affectionately called Greta Garmin. My wife constantly talks to Greta telling her to shut up. Most of the time the volume is turned off as DW finds it very annoying. If Greta could talk other they the preloaded phrases she would likely be saying turn around stupid you missed the turn. My routes often do not coincide with the direction she wants me to go, so you can seeh it constantly showing read arrows close to the next exit turnng around to go back in the direction we just came from.
