Still trying to find a suitable trailer for my family and yet to succeed so I am turning to you with tow vehicle numbers.
I drive a 2009 ford f150 supercab with 3.31 gears and 4.6l 3v. GVWR with 6900, but I can't seem to find the GCVWR with that gear combo. It is s shortbed model. Any help me out here. Trying to figure out what weight of trailer would be safe for us and not tear the truck up along the way. I know it's not the greatest combo of engine, gears, but we really didn't intend on using it to pull with, but other things in life got in the way so this is what I have to deal with. Thanks for your help.

I'm sure they set a GCVWR for your truck but it would be pretty low, maybe around 12,000 lb. You have a strictly economy gear and an economy engine so the trailer for your truck would need to be kept pretty small for satisfactory towing. In checking the "trailer Life" tow ratings I find the maximum trailer weight for your truck is 6300 lb. That is as useful a number as the GCVWR anyway and is BASICALLY the same thing except it doesn't take into account after market items like a bed cover or tonneau cover. If you've added any of those type of weighty options you'd need to do the math and reduce the maximum trailer weight. don't forget to ALSO reduce it by the weight of any passengers or cargo being carried in the truck. This will STILL give you a pretty good selection of trailers in the 25 foot and under size range. Would also put most hybrids in your category and probably ALL pop ups. Good luck / skip

Thanks skip I would be happy with hybrid more than likely. Right now I would be happy with anything other than a tent. Neighbors might not be, boy you should hear my wife snore um... I mean the kids.
Hope my sarcastic comment didn't offend anyone, but I have tendency to use humor when I am discouraged about things.

According to pages 252-253 of the online Owners Manual,
The GCWR for the 2009 Ford f150 supercab with 3.31 gears and 4.6l 3v is:
13,000# for the 4x2 133" wheelbase and
13,500# for the 4x2 145" wheelbase.

I guess in the flat lands of OK the OP's truck might be able to handle that much of a load. However for the rest of the US that truck would be heavily taxed pulling a small tent trailer. Sorry to say it this way, but your truck is pretty useless for anything but getting the weekly groceries. If you want to tow much more than a small tent trailer, get a truck that has more power

Sadly I know and no offense taken. When it was bought all that it was for was going to work and back and the occasional dump runs. Would like to trade it and was going to, but the wife crashed her van Monday so I have to replace that first.

Get some 3.73 gears or even 4.10's and that would 'pep' it up some... I'd still not go for anything more then a #6000 GVWR TT however...
I tow a #5000 GVWR TT with a 97 F150 with a 5.4, 3.55 gears and taller then stock tires and it does very well with it.
Your 4.6 is probably on par with the power of my old 5.4!
Even with your current gears, I'd bet you'd do okay with a #5000 GVWR TT... You'd just be in 2nd gear on the hills (as I am) and 3rd on the flats (as I am)... Nothing wrong with that IMO...
You will want to make sure you have an aux trans cooler (factory or otherwise) and don't get any taller tires!
Good luck with all the decisions!

I just wanted to thank everyone for their help. Guess I may be tent camping for the next 5 years. I am not sure anyone can at a reasonable price change my gears and it by right. I'll have to chalk it up to another "I messed that one up".
Guess it should have crossed my mind this was something I wanted to do when I bought the truck.
