What is the best resource to figure out what a used RV is worth in this market and what your trade in is truly worth?

NADA.com is not very helpful.
And when I was at camping world the salesman told me that trade-in's were worth wholesale -30%. Since I don't know what wholesale is, I'm at a loss.

Thanks

The online version of NADA's book has only two figures, and only the printed version bought by banks and dealers (and sometimes your public library) will have the wholesale figure. Since the values are based on a percentage formula from the Manufacturer's Retail List Price, it is only a rough guide to use for comparison prices between different models. As the Camping World salesman mentioned, you could use 30% off of wholesale, which is about 30% off of low retail. Substantial depreciation, huh? Sorry about that. Consider NADA just another tool in your tool box.

A potential market value estimate can be obtained by looking at PPL's web site. They list sold prices.

If you have the RV Trader back there, you could get comps there if you can find an RV similar enough to yours.

Also try a search on Ebay using Advanced Search and select 'Completed Items' - it will give you an idea what people are bidding on similar rigs

We recently searched for an older rig and prices were Nada + 50% for pre 1990. The newer they got the closer it go to Nada values - by 99+ they were fairly accurate.

Why trade in? The current market for older motorhomes is very strong and you will get a better price by selling on Craigslist/Ebay or one of the online clasifieds and then be able to become a cash buyer. Find out the best price the salesman will give you and try and get the same or better by selling privately.

To get the Dealer Wholesale price contact you local library and ask if they have the current version of the NADA Recreation Vehicle Appraisal Guide.

You can also get very close to calculating the Wholesale by multiplying the NADA Average Retail by .774

Dealers obviously looking to profit on selling your rig to a buyer. If you're patient you might be able to do it on your own and pocket their profit. You could also get stuck with a depreciating asset for a year + while you wait to sell.

Good luck with your decision.

Why didn't you ask your dealer to see his wholesale NADA book?

You can also see the book at a bank, credit union or a library. You can also buy one from NADA.

As much as you seem to dislike the NADA pricing guide that is what the dealers use.

Most dealers use NADA for trades. You can get a starting point at NADA but remember that figures is based on the MSRP of the RV when new and we all know that NOBODY pays NADA and the same thing should be true of a used unit. The BEST gauge is what someone ELSE actually sells their similar RV for in your area. Nobody is going to give you XXX for yours when they can buy a similar model a few miles up the road for XX.
