Our 2004 Thetford AquaMagic IV plastic toilet has broken down. RV service center who handles Thetford tells me THERE ARE NO SPARES AVAILABLE. Part is called a "knife valve" and it will permit the blade at the bottom of the bowl to come back out after a flush. As of now, after a flush, the blade will not come back.

Are not mfrs. required to keep 10 years of parts available? Can I ask Thetford to send me a complete toilet, free?

If worse comes to worse, is a new plastic or china toilet preferable?

Thank you

If you have to buy a new one, go with china. JMHO!

Well, did you contact Thetford direct to see if they have parts?? Having said that I replaced mine because DW did not like the hand flush on the IV. We went with the Bravura model for our rig it works just fine. Installed it myself.

cheers

We recently replaced our old one with an Aqua Magic "Style" china toilet. It is expensive but my posterior has never been happier.

I fully agree with other posters -- go with china. They are more scratch resistant, therefore clean up easy. The only downside is they are slightly heavier but that should be too much of an issue.

Replaced my 1989 Thetford plastic model with a Aqua-Magic Style plus China bowl.
Great improvement.

You might give the PPL RV Parts Catalog a try for parts for your existing toilet, but failing that, I'll throw in my vote for the Aqua Magic Style Plus as well. The porcelain bowl and standard sized seat make it just as comfortable and easy to clean as our home toilet. At $200 from PPL, it's not too pricey either, as long as you don't want a black one.
