So, in your opinion, which wins the battle of the best fifth wheel stabilization: Traditional tripod system or "Steady-Fast" type frame systems. I'm new to the Fifth Wheel World and noticed a lot of unwanted "shaaaking" this weekend. Can you help?

i made my own steady fast stabalizers as i awas too tight to spend the money. i have a wheel lock that i place between the tires for forward and back movement and two steady fast one on the front and one on the rear. i found that in a lot of places if your rig is very long you won't have room for the kingpin stabalizer pluss you have to have aplace to store it and get it out everytime you set up. the others are soo much easier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also use the wheel locks between the tires and that helped, but if anyone is in the forward room, the rig's motion is way too noticeable. Do you order Steady Fast as single units or pairs?

I've got mine so it only moves a little(40' with 3 kids in it)I swear by the JT stabilizers and Roto-chaulks(both sides)

I have a tripod for anyone that will come and pick it up. I put on Plug-it-rights a few months ago and that with my rotochoks, make all the difference in the world. The plug-it-rights are the same thing as JT's, and other strut systems. They will take all the bounce out that the tripod will and more. It also beats lugging the thing around.

Tri pod stabilizer seems to work well when I first set it up, but then appears to add to the shaky problems as the rig settles. Fussing with the jacks or front legs after that only makes things worse. I'm destined to break down and buy the JT's or something like.

I use the tripod and am very happy with it. I stay with the tripod as the overhang seems larger than most other 5th wheels. The wheel chocks are almost more important than the other stabilizing item.

We use the RotoChock and are pleased with them:

If you are mechanically inclined a couple years ago Trailer Life had the instructions to make them in their 10-min tech column.

I stil carry my tripod around, but after messing with it for a couple of years, I think it is like maybe haveing a pet octapus. I wish I would have gotten the V type with the jack on it.
