Almost hit a Moose in the Tetons, was able to some how get between her & her calf. Not towing at the time, Thankfully!

Deer & the like on the roadways is why I do not like to drive after dark anymore.

Near twilight with a bright sun shining to rear, driving on a two-lane highway, while cresting a hill at high speed, spotted about 4 or 5 possums walking in a tight circle. No time to react, hit them first with the front wheel and then with the dullies. Checked the rear view mirror and saw in the back-lit sun light a cloud of red mist. Next day as it warmed up the smell got unbearable.

Like the part about the dog. They seem to like that dead stuff to eat or roll in. So far it has not happened to us. One good thing you did not drag a skunk. Guess my breakfast can wait after reading this!

I hit a porcupine going though Texas at 70 mph it was about the size of a basketball. I centered it and it cleared my truck but didn't clear the U-Haul trailer I was towing. My son was behind me in his low Volvo which it sure didn't clear. He thought it was a basketball. We look his car over for damage but there wasn't any but we did find quills stuck in the motor mounts and other rubber places under the car. i know when I looked out my mirror that porcupine was rolling fast. If it lived it was walking in circles for a few days.

Mechanics and bodyshops make lots of money off people like you. Be happy you didn't put a hoof or antler thru your radator or tire, or catch the fuel tank or line.

At least you were not the guy that a police officer was telling me about. He came up on a call and when he got there there was a guy on a motorcycle that hit a live dear. He split it in half. They thought the driver was hurt because he was covered in blood but it was not from him.

They can cause a lot of problem dead or alive.

Interesting. My old boss and his wife were on their Yamaha cruiser and did that at about 60 when a deer jumped out in front of them. Totalled the bike, but he kept it upright and managed to get to the side of the road. It was dusk, and as they came around the corner (he's doing his job, looking around the corner where he wants to go), she's looking off the road, and says 'Dear'. He said 'what?'. She said 'Dear'. He said 'I said, what?'. She said 'NO. DEER!' He said 'Oh, Deer!'. He had time to straighten the bike up a little, and that's when he hit it.
This was on highway 115 just out of Colorado Springs.

The family and I were heading North on I-5 to Seattle from Portland. It was summer time and light out when a cat came running off the shoulder. I said "CAT" and then the thump thump as the front driver side tire hit and it went under. The look my wife and daughter gave me was classic they were horrified and wondered why I didn't try to avoid it. Silly Girls

Here in the Ozarks we have a lot of deer vs. vehicle accidents this time of year. When I see a deer cross the road in front of me I hit the brakes. Most often there is 2 or 3 more following the first one.

Down here the big problem is becoming wild hogs.

I did hit a gator once, not real big - about 5 feet long - but in my '89 Dodge Omni it felt big, though.

I have been fortunate regarding dead animals but have hit boards and
pieces of recaps. When that happens I always pull over for a good vehicle
inspection and a stretch. Better safe than sorry later.

do agree!

Ditto and the extra attention I pay to maintain a good safety margin distance and being extra alert is why I only drive 6 to 7 hours in a day and never at night.

Them road Alligators can tear heck out of the underside of a trailer, especially one with the Darco enclosed underbelly.
