I am in the market for a pair of decent quality cowboy boots while I am in the Valley this winter. I have looked at them in Progresso but have no idea of the quality so I would prefer to buy in the Alamo, McAllen area. Any suggestions? -Tom

There is a good western shop on Conway St. in Mission, between expressway 83 & business 83.

The leather shop in Progreso appears to have good quality, they are 5 or 6 blocks in on the right.

Look no further than a place that sells Lucchese. You will never be happier with a pair of boots than Luccheses.

Very true, but expect to pay a ton. If you're not used to wearing boots, have them fitted and then made. Otherwise you are in for some pain and frustration. Incidentally, that goes for any kind (brand) of western boots. You get what you pay for.

You shouldn't have a problem finding Cowboy Boots in the RGV. There are several Boot stores there, sorry can't remember their locations. DW and I both wear Lucchese's, between us I think we have 8 pair. She also has boots made by Ariat which she likes very well. I have a pair of handmade Lucchese and the fit is the best boot I have ever owned. Just believe the Lucchese are the best Cowboy Boot out there. I have worned many different brands, Justin, Niacona just to name two other brands and the Lucchese's are the best of any brand I have worn. GBY....

What about Mexico? The Mexicans do some wonderful leatherwork. Don't they have any good shops? If you've noticed, the Mexican sunday best is usually western wear, including cowboy boots.

I personally would go to the leather shop in Progresso and get a pair custom made. The quality will be on par with any US made boot, the fit will be to your foot, not a universal last and the price will be much better. My family have all their their boots made in Mexico.

I think most of the boot shops in Mexico are owned by the same people or relatives. When DH was looking for boots, the one store did not have what he wanted in his size so someone from the shop went running across the road and came back a few minutes later with the required boot. We also heard this from others in our campground. Your budget will determine where you buy and how much patience you have for trying many on.

I've got a pair of leather Larry Mahan's that are the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. I am sold on LM's.

Budget? What's that? Just kidding, but I am not going to spend five hundred dollars for a pair of boots that I won't be wearing that often. As for purchasing in Mexico, I don't buy anything there for more than a few dollars. I have purchased ten dollar items that compare to forty here in the States. I have also spent twenty dollars for something that turned out to be junk.

I probably should have stopped at the Justin factory on the way down or is there a factory outlet in this area?
