I have heard (while camping, of course) that if a brand new RV is not sold within two years of its manufacture date, it by law has to be declared and valued as a "used" RV. Does anyone with knowledge of the law know if this is true or legend? Would it vary from state-to-state? I live in Tennessee.

I have never heard of it… I have see trailers and MH’s on dealers lots more than 2 years old that have never been titled or used though… in PA it would be a A title (first owner) and show the date it was titled…

The seller places what ever value he wants on it, so I don’t see that as a issue or controllable…

Did you ALSO hear who was supposed to have "used" it? The LAW doesn't make them USED it's USING them that does that.

Never titled = new. For example, a vehicle can be 5 years old with thousands of miles on it, and if it's never been titled, the first title will show it as 'new'

Check with your DMV to be sure. In CT, a vehicle is 'NEW' until a title is issued when it sold the first time, regardless of the age of the vehicle.

For what it is worth:
this past spring, we bought a "new" travel trailer from a RV dealer in TN.
It was two years old, but never had been sold.
We got a full two year warrantee on everything in the trailer, and are quite happy with the deal we got.
It had listed for over 20K, and we paid $11,500.

That is the same prive we paid for a a new four foot shorter TT seven years ago, so needless to say we are quite happy.

Even if it has been "used", it will still be new if not titled.
When a new MH is driven from the factory in California to the East Coast, it has a few thousand miles on it. It has been "used" but still can be sold as new.
I have seen coaches that were two years old on dealer's lots that had been shuffled around to shows and between dealerships and are still sold as new even with 6000 miles on the odometer.
This is why it is important that your dealer send in a Statement Of Facts to the chassis manufacturer stating the mileage when the coach was sold so the owner gets the full 12-momth, 12k warranty.

In my opinion if it has not been used but is other than the current year model, it is not new. That being said it also is not used if it has not been used.

Hows that for muddying the water?
