Try putting the urine on cotton balls placed on plastic so it does not get in carpeting.

I do have elephant harness bells, bells that were used on circus elephant harnesses.
From Ringling Bros circus, my dad left them to me.

I don't think they're scared. I was "protecting" a fence post one time and a field mouse ran up my leg. Talk about shaking it.
